The CIA and the U.S. military have been using a new type of missile during some drone strikes in recent years, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. What makes this new missile unique? It doesnt explode and instead deploys sharp blades, hitting targets like a speeding anvil from the sky.
The new missile, which has never been acknowledged publicly before today, is called the R9X and is a variant of the Hellfire missile. But unlike a traditional Hellfire, the R9X is designed with six long blades that only emerge from the missile seconds before impact. The R9X, nicknamed the flying Ginsu by insiders, doesnt contain a warhead. The goal, according to anonymous U.S. officials speaking with the Journal, is to reduce unnecessary casualties and hopefully only kill the person who was targeted in the first place.

If they really want to impress me, and have a deep impact on the anxiety level of those dark ages superstition-soaked nitwits, the missile would use blades to do a "Algerian civil war" job on the target. Caution, doing a search will turn up the picture, and you can't unsee it.
Right after the knife bomb does its damage, a mop bomb follows to clean up the mess.
Mechanical broadheads deploy on contact of the target.

Nothing that is not already and currently aired on Alarma TV.
You’re gonna love my nuts!
The enemy is sliced and diced.
You know dose Germans make great stuff...
It cuts through a steel can, then slices up the muzztard inside.
LOL!
Beyond utterly stupid!
Cool!
I read about this 4 or 5 years ago. It is designed to cut automotive body steel and anything else that might be in the way. It’s a smart bomb designed to strike a car and kill anyone inside, but not harm people standing near the car.
P.S. How ya feeling Laz ?
Never been a fan of mechanicals. The original Magnus work great. Re-sharpenable carbon steel. Hell yeah.
I do not believe this. A hellfire missile cost about 115,000 dollars. One assumes really bad guys are surrounded by other bad guys. Kill them all with maximum blast radius. If by chance innocents are with them (not likely) the bad guy put them in the area of death, not us. Maximum blast radius is good.
The blades must be rounded because pointy is a war crime.
Definitely not cost effective. An LGB or Jdam probably costs less and does the job. Make them smaller and still get your target for less $. Not the DOD way.
Much better than this poorly drawn slobbering crud praising Justice Ginsberg that Warner Brothers' New Mad published shortly before pulling the plug on new material.
