according to duckduckgo...
"Columbus Day, which is on the second Monday of October, remembers Christopher Columbus' arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492. This holiday is controversial because the European settlement in the Americas led to the demise of the history and culture of the indigenous peoples."
Where I come from, the “savages” in our history were Apaches, not Aztecs!!!!
The Apaches were also at a much lower level of civilization than Aztecs, Maya, etc. They wouldn’t raise the horses they needed for their raids, but always stole them from other Natives or whites!! It took a lot of doing to defeat the Apaches, and to pacify the Southwest.
By the way, the vast major of the deaths of Natives after the arrival of Europeans were unintentional—due to smallpox and other diseases. The immune systems of the Natives were unable to cope with Eurasian microbes, and no one understood why until the advent of modern immunology!
100% Italian (Rome)! As I am about to have my Oath Ceremony,I will have to renounce my allegiance to Italy but she will always have a special place in my heart. Viva Colombo!
Anche noi irlandese-americane qui parlano italiano! Buon' festa!
AND the District of Columbia!
I love my Irish friends who i grew up with! :)
3 out of about 20 of us.
Good guys.
Ping!
The men are a lot easier to get along with than us women.
lol
I hear you.
To the rediscovery of columbus
Happy Columbus Day to all.
Today is Columbus day. It will never be anything else.
Most of our Italian family married Irish
They make beautiful babies. And they love our Italian food. If the women are Irish and ate they are smart and let their husbands cook and the women do the dishes. Italian food is the best.
Happy Columbus Day, y’all!
I LOVE seeing Y’all!! after Happy Columbus Day :)
You’ve just added Southern Charm to one of my favorite Holidays :)
LOLs! Wonderful! I certainly agree, it is the best! Which, when compared to Irish food, is like going from zero to ninety in three seconds. Except for Irish breakfasts. Nothing beats bacon, eggs, oatmeal, potatoes, toast, Irish butter and sharp cheese, and coffee.
Having been raised by the dour, disapproving type of Irish, I moved in adulthood to an Italian neighborhood and was reborn to an atmosphere of affection, enjoyment, music and arts, laughter, and wonderful food. I got re-nurtured. I honor my "adopted" Italian mom as much, and sometimes more, than my own mom.
Happy Columbus day from Alberta!
Don’t forget the cooked tomatoes for a true Irish breakfast.
Italians in the other side don’t know breakfast it’s coffee or expresso with a biscotti.
Irish food has no taste. Everything is boiled with no seasoning.
