There were loads of revolting posts about her racial background, not to mention anti-Semitism by people who believed some misinformation that she has Jewish ancestry. I became a partisan of Meghan's because of the bigoted filth (or filthy bigotry) directed at her ... even though I think she's a super flake and Prince Harry is, too. (Cute as a bug, though.)
That said, I think it was the fact that she's an American actress, divorced, older than Prince Harry, etc., that generated some negativity in the British public. Racist meanness would just be an add-on.
