Actually, research shows that cottonseed oil is a little better than canola. I only use cottonseed oil for baking and frying. Have done for years. My family is exceptionally healthy. We grow cotton and it is not loaded with pesticide. Some years, some places there may be a need to spray for some outbreak but it is not done without careful evaluation. Too costly to waste on unneeded spraying. Cattle eat cottonseed and oil has many uses. It is safe and good and since we buy at our farmer’s owned cooperative, cheaper than other alternatives. I can link you to Cotton Incorporated which is the research arm for our industry. I love to grow cotton, watching it grow and harvesting. But the product is outstanding in fabric and for cattle feed and oilseed production. There is a non-gossypol seed that can be ground for meal but it isn’t widely grown at this point.
I did a quick search for cottonseed oil and there were articles positive and negative. I venture to say any other food would have similar results. I just say don’t knock it til you try it. It has done well for us.
Thanks you for informative and experienced comments. Since you grow you own that sounds much safer and better! I know cottonseed cake is very good livestock feed (I mean I have read that!).
I take back my blanket condemnation!
Also any oil that is solvent extracted I would avoid; I would only use pressed oil anyway of any kind. I avoid any cooked oil due to some other reason and eat milk fat as my fat intake (butter, ghee).
