If you knew of a faithful Christian who was to obtain (intentionally limited) TV (using a Roku device), but could afford but one channel each of Sports, Weather, World News, National News, History, Nature, and Movies, and perhaps one other category, what existing channels might you advise he subscribe to for his household comprised of teens through elderly?
Pluto tv
I haven’t owned a TV in 40 years.
No TV is really the best way.
Your computer monitor is a screen of some sort.
My old tv is a dust collector.
I can’t answer your question. However I can tell you about how to save money. Not sure Roku works with this, though.
Acorn TV (brit shows) has a deal with RBDigital where you can get three 7 day passes a month through local libraries.
Hoopla has a similar deal but you are limited to 10 borrows a month.
There are a lot of good shows on Acorn TV
It’s kind of a convoluted process to get your free subscription every 7 days. Check your local libary to see if they offer it
My family’s access to television is really limited.
To televisions at restaurants and waiting rooms, as there hasn’t been one in the home since March of 1995.
Check out PHILO. $20 per month.
It is mandatory that all televisions and cable boxes have a means of parental control.
Use an off-air antenna, subscribe to basic cable, or subscribe to basic satellite dish, then turn on the parental controls to lock out all of the channels you do not want viewed.
All programs are also required to have a parental guideline ratings, such as TV-Y, TV-G, TV-14, etc. You can also turn on parental control on any TV or cable box to block specific programs above a certain rating.
For example, if you block everything above TV-G, then any program rated TV-14 or above will be automatically blocked.
Our Spectrum provider has a program where you pick ten channels from a list, and then you get those ten channels plus the basic local access package and the music channels. my bill dropped from 146 to 61 and I can’t accidentally end up on CNN or MSNBC anymore. I have internet at 30mps and have had no issues with streaming hd to one while streaming 4k to the other tv. And I can watch it on my computers and phone. I am using some of the savings to subscribe to a few other streaming services. The marketplace rules.
Beat me to it.
BTW...do you know how to access a view that shows the Favorites you've selected via the mobile App? I've looked and looked but find no way in the Roku interface or the App to show a listing of my Favorites. I've tried calling Pluto and emailing them but get no answers.
Scroll down - lots of channels available
Way cool! Thanks. Checked and our library offers Acorn and a couple others.
We quit using the library because they got all persnickety and stopped allowing those who live smack dab on the county line to use the one closest to them across the line even though they allowed it for 50 years or longer. We donated $$$ to them and did volunteer work but no more if I can’t check out a book. It is a the same number of patrons back and forth. That county comes here and we go there depending. Maybe we should ban them from coming across the line to Walmart!! It was just too far to drive to return a book an extra 30 miles.
Have had Philo for 2 years, love it. OAN(better than Fox News) is about $5.00 per month.
The flaw in that process is that Hollyweird Pervos ultimately decide what ratings these shows are given.
And their criteria is not anywhere close to what yours or mine would be.
I was shocked to channel-surf into a program with a TV 14 rating that was giving some pretty blatant allusions to oral sex.
Just fix the tv to METV and the other channels that have old tv shows.
