A new passenger survey ranks New York's LaGuardia, Newark Liberty International in New Jersey and Honolulu International as the worst airports in the nation.
The J.D. Power 2019 North America Airport Satisfaction Study ranked passenger satisfaction with North American airports on a 1,000-point scale in the mega, large and medium size categories.
In the 'mega' category, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport ranks highest in passenger satisfaction with a score of 786.
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport/Wold (779) ranks second among the megas, while Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (777) and Orlando International Airport (777) rank third in a tie.

This includes flight crews as well. I’ve always referred LGA as La Garbage.
LaGuardia isn’t so bad once you are inside, and through security.
BUT!!!
The construction — essentially tearing down the old airport, but using it during demolition — and while the new airport is being built adjacent to the old — has created a TRUE passenger and traffic nightmare.
LAX didn’t make the cut?
MSP ranks second?
Bullshit. I just went through security here and TSA is as obnoxious and rude as La Guardia. They hassled a 90 plus year old who could barely walk. Fckn disgusting.
I agree that Honolulu is backwards, having to lug your stuff from one terminal to another with not even a decent walkway between. However, I’m not sure a modern airport in that location is a plus.
LAX seems to always be ‘under construction’, as it is right now. Just came through there, Tom Bradley, and what a nightmare. Leaving wasn’t bad but coming back through took us 1 1/2 hours to get out of customs, then luggage, then they have a 30 foot entrance/exit for everyone coming in and going out. It was awful.
LGA and Newark have zero customer service. Both Airports have hired the meanest, most rude people they could find and made them customer service reps.
Las Vegas ranked high does not make sense unless the rankings include number of slot machines at an Airport. LAS has terrible food choices, not enough seating, small restrooms, etc.
LaGuardia is the worst.
Newark is a paradise compared to LGA.
You can always take the Wiki but if you miss it you’re screwed. Came through there last year and our plane was late getting in so we missed the wiki. I said I can’t walk that far and told the gal at the wiki station to call for an emergency bus...there were a few of us headed for another plane...and call and tell that plane to wait on us. I was surprised that they actually did it. As soon as we were seated on the plane the doors closed and we took off.
New York’s LaGuardia = perpetual construction
Newark... worst neighborhood
You’re absolutely right about LaGuardia. But I’m puzzled as to how Dulles isn’t on or at the top (bottom?) of this list. The international arrivals setup in particular, baggage claim and security, reminded me of a few backwater s-hole places I’ve been. For the airport serving the nation’s capital? Embarrassing.
Kansas City airport is nowhere near the pita levels of LGA but inside the terminals are only slightly better than Greyhound Bus stations.
DTW rated the best? Are they crazy? The sojourn to pick up your baggage takes longer than the flight. And don’t get me started on the TSA guys who seem like they were recruited from the nearest car wash.
Honolulu is bad. The baggage claims are who knows where, and you have to ask directions several times to find your way to the right terminal because the signs are not clearly marked and the walkways are disconnected. The terminals can be so far apart that I have even missed connecting flights there while walking from one to the other at a brisk pace.
I agree about MSP. I live in the Twin Cities.
The TSA are a bunch of rude asses. I do get it that there’s a lot of people to get thru the checkpoints and there are times you can’t always be Mr Charming - but these guys seem to relish being a pain in the butt.
O’Hare is the one that amazes me. There are so many damn taxiways, and the airport is so large, that it took my last flights 20 minutes to get from the gate to take off, and landing to the gate.
Insanity.
Probably because Detroit, Minneapolis, Vegas and Orlando are more barnyard animal friendly.
