Almost all. I've seen a tiny handful of bruised right eyes. But most are left.
I think it's a combination of either discipline, hazing, or reward for the recipients. I've heard theories that it's just a right cross, or that it's a needle. I think both are possible.
It's definitely a message to fellow travellers. Something unusual, hard to hide, always written off as an 'accident'. But always has a meaning.
I haven't had a shiner like these since I was a kid. That's including the numerous times I've busted my schnozz, or various martial encounters.
I did note today that Jimmy Carter has come out swinging against POTUS. Much more vocal than the past.
