He Never Intended To Become A Political Dissident, But Then He Started Beating Up Tai Chi Masters

On a recent Thursday evening in August, a 40-year-old MMA gym owner in Beijing named Xu Xiaodong activated his VPN, hopped over the Chinese government’s internet firewall, and began his first-ever live YouTube broadcast. He wanted to talk about the ongoing protests in Hong Kong, in which hundreds of thousands of citizens have demonstrated against mainland China’s attempts to circumvent Hong Kong’s autonomy and civil liberties. Xu looked into the camera and took a stance on the protests that few, if any, of his countrymen living on the mainland were willing to publicly take: “Hong Kong people are Chinese. I am Chinese. So I love Hong Kong,

Xu’s livestream didn’t go unnoticed by the Chinese authorities, who had been using Chinese state media to portray the Hong Kong protestors as members of a rabid, violent mob. Four days after the livestream was posted, state security showed up at Xu’s apartment and took him in for questioning.

Xu was unimpressed by all of this. In early 2017, he started honing in on the young Yang-style tai chi grandmaster Wei Lei, who had recently come to national attention thanks to a CCTV-4 program called Real Kung Fu, in which Wei was featured performing such feats as turning the inside of a watermelon into mush without penetrating its skin and keeping a live pigeon perched on his hand from flying away through a personal force field. Xu called Wei Lei “brainwashed” and “a dumbass.” In retaliation, Wei Lei, or one of his associates, published Xu’s personal information, including his address and phone number online. Xu, enraged, flew to the southwestern city of Chengdu, where Wei is based, walked into the tai chi master’s gym, and demanded they fight right there on the spot.

The Protestors I saw kill an elderly Chinese man the other night were rabid, and violent.

That’s a very interesting article. Now I know who, what and where Xu Xiadong is. China is a gigantic continent, far larger that the USA. Even in the communist domain, there is still room for rebels who are worthy of folklore and imitation.

At age 40, Xiadong is still in top condition, but even Chuck Norris got old. If Xiadong survives and stays out of prison, I would expect him to try his hand in elective office.
They do have elective office in China, don’t they?
I’m not really certain about that. If they do, the votes are probably cooked like a casserole most the time.

Those are the sort of fakes Xu is fighting to expose, at great risk to himself - one famous and well-connected Tai Chi “Master” sued him and that’s how he got all the restrictions and must travel and live under constant surveillance - even to having to fight under a humiliating name in clown make up.

If she doesn't like that, maybe she should get a job.

Millions are made up of hundreds of thousands - why quibble since the article is not about Hong Kong.

Possibly infiltration. Send in some thugs to impugn every protestor and remove legitimacy of their concerns. Ad hoc totalitarianism.

[The Protestors I saw kill an elderly Chinese man the other night were rabid, and violent.]

In a tactic copied from (or perhaps simply implemented from mandatory training stints in China) Hong Kong cops have been dressing up as civilians and beating up protestors. This escalation led to protestors fighting with cops, South Korean-style. No deaths to date. This might be the incident you referred to:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/06/asia/hong-kong-unrest-intl-hnk/index.html
[Video uploaded to social media shows one of Hong Kong’s red taxi cabs, driving slowly in a sea of black-clad protesters, turning left and accelerating into the crowd.

Several other images and video in local media show what appeared to be the aftermath: A man, bloodied and battered, being hit and kicked while on the ground next to the taxi. In one of the videos, a few people could be seen attempting to intervene to help him and stop the mob from further harming him. A police source told CNN the driver was unconscious when he was rescued.

CNN could not immediately confirm the circumstances that led to this incident.

The Hong Kong Hospital Authority said four people were sent to the hospital in the aftermath. One has left and three are in serious condition, including the taxi driver, the hospital authority said.]

pictured just before he wiped the floor with this fake "pressure point" Tai Chi fighter.

Give this guy (another fake) some credit, but in the end Xu beat him to a pulp.

The funny thing is that communists hate martial arts, because it doesn’t matter who they declare the best, unless they can prove it, they are stinker.

The Chinese government right now thinks it can do the same thing with martial artists as it can with Buddhist leaders and Catholic Bishops (granted the current Pope is willing.)

During the worst of times in Stalin’s Soviet Union, when civilian martial arts was a death penalty, there were still dojos all over the place, practicing in secret.

The bottom line is that good martial artists have their own rules and laws, so ignore civilian laws at will. And government hates this.

China is not is continent, but a country on the continent of Asia. China is 3.7 million square miles; the US is also a country on a continent consisting of 3.8 million square miles and Alaska adds another 663,268 square miles dwarfing China.
