Several things: 1) I just went through DTW Customs and used Simplified Arrivals. It was blindingly fast... for DTW. 2) They're saying they delete the photos in 12 hours or less. Who ensures they do that, and who watches the the watchers? Other watchers? Well, who watches them? 3) Ninety-seven percent of "departing international travelers will be processed through facial recognition by mid-2023. I call that fairly ambitious for the government.
Lastly; most people aren't really all that torqued about facial recognition for security purposes, according to several recent studies, surveys and news reports. Except for people like Rancida Tlaib, that is. ;-)

We are heading there.
It will probably be safer for us in the long run instead of using driver’s licenses/pass ports and keying in pass words.

Delta, at least for international flights, is also using face recognition as a boarding pass.
I objected to looking into the camera and had a boarding pass in hand, they didn’t argue. I asked from where do they get the data? They answered, “from your passport”.
Where did I authorize the U.S. government to share my biometrics with a private company?
