A federal judge in New York has ordered billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson to pay compensatory damages and legal fees to the National Jewish Democratic Council for using “legal sadism” to disband the organization.
The NJDC now exists in name only as it works to recover its debts from its legal battle with Adelson that began in 2012. […]
Adelson had sued the National Jewish Democratic Council in 2012 over an online petition alleging that the major Republican donor allowed prostitution at his casino in Macau.
The petition included a hyperlink to an Associated Press article carrying allegations against Adelson.
Much of the legal argument was over whether attaching a hyperlink is a clear enough signal that the defendants were citing available information. …

By that standard since AP and CBS broadcast the forged Bush National Guard memos it’s fair game to cite them as fact.

Don't know much about this case, but it seems to me if they were advancing the position that Adelson's casino allows prostitution they could simply establish that fact. If not, significant damages are probably appropriate given the fact that the Sands Macao is a valuable property thus subject to significant financial damage. I'm surprised the Dem's can't find donors for $24 million to bail out this fine organization rather than running up more legal fees.
This is what I always hated about NYC. Litigate, litigate, litigate. And I was in the legal trade then, and I still hated it.
