Study on Harvard finds 43 percent of white students are legacy, athletes, related to donors or staff

With the fate of Harvard’s affirmative action lawsuit in the hands of a judge, a new study stemming from that suit has raised more questions about the role of wealth, race and access in college admissions at prestigious universities.

The study, published earlier this month in the National Bureau of Economic Research, found that 43 percent of white students admitted to Harvard University were recruited athletes, legacy students, children of faculty and staff, or on the dean’s interest list — applicants whose parents or relatives have donated to Harvard.

That number drops dramatically for black, Latino and Asian American students, according to the study, with less than 16 percent each coming from those categories. The study also found that roughly 75 percent of the white students admitted from those four categories, labeled 'ALDCs' in the study, “would have been rejected if they had been treated as white non-ALDCs,” the study said.

Is there anyone at all enrolled in Harvard based upon academic merit? It seems not.

SATs were created to help find the best and brightest across the fruited plains and the heartland; those outside the well-connected incestuous east-coast elites.

They have long since been jettisoned in favor of political correctness and those with connections or a sob story.

It's a damn shame.

A good indication that the administrators had to know, including the president and the board.

Universities are as corrupt as Washington DC

25% of Harvard students are jewish.
Over 50% of their PHD students are jewish.
Will I get banned for commenting on these publicly known facts?
My brothers daughter is a graduate of Harvard with a post graduate degree in religion.
She currently leads a congregation in Pennsylvania.

I think that the students of Asian ethnicity are admitted largely on academic achievement.

Studying every day for hours will boost your academic achievement far more than spending those hours playing games, expecially with your thumbs alone.

A while ago I dated a woman who was a Harvard grad. She told me that a classmate of hers, who was the Vice Chancellor of Admissions at Harvard, told her that were it not for the school's affirmative admissions policy (and legacy admissions) the entire Freshman Class would consist of Asians and Jews.

“Not quite the elite of the elite.”

Depends on what your idea of ‘elite’ is.

Harvard is a private school. Regardless of feelings about diversity or fairness, they are entitled to admit whomever they please.

I wouldn’t want my kids to go to that school.

Yes, probably every Asian American that is there.
That is why the Asian American person sued Harvard.

FYI, my Caucasian Anglo heterosexual son is applying to Harvard for his PHD in Biomedical Technology. He is interested in tissue engineering/creating organs in a lab.

There are several labs there that are 100% Chinese students.
Not immigrants. Chinese from the Peoples Republic.

Yeah, I know a couple of Harvard grads and they are pure legacy/donor related people. They’re also quite dumb and unreliable, so it’s amazing that they were allowed to get through Harvard.

Same with Stanford. Unless you are a recruited athlete, an American oligarch or foreign dictator’s child, a major donor’s kid, or a preferred minority unicorn, your chances of admittance go from the published 1:20 rate, to about 1:200

So the students "of color" are there on Affirmative Action and the "colorless" students are there from donations or connections.

How is one of those categories more "privileged" than the other?

Why not create a blind admissions system based solely on academic merit?

As long as they don’t violate double -secret probation, there is nothing to worry about.

In other words it’s not the best and brightest but the most well connected that attend.

There are over 3000 institutions of high education in America, iirc. A number of them will provide a world class education in your field of endeavor. People need to take Harvard off its pedestal and give these other institutions a look.
