Rangers and paramedics responded and detected evidence of alcohol use, the release said. They found the mans shoe, hat and a beer can near the geyser.
If only there was some way to determine what happened here. </sarc>

Oh. Because of his age I don’t think he is eligible for a Darwin Award. At this age he had has no doubt spread his pollen among many flowers.

tripped into a hot spring while on an off-boardwalk stroll without a flashlight just before midnight. Who could have guessed that outcome? The beer can is just the cherry on top.

A fall into ice water would have a similar impact.
I drink too much sometimes, too, but I do it at home, not next to a geyser.

He was drunk. Not exactly a conduit for rational thinking.
He's lucky to be alive....boiled alive.

I had a scalding accident once (not my fault) and it was bad enough on a relatively small area, so I feel sorry for the guy. I would feel a lot sorrier if he hadn’t been so incredibly stupid. He’s old enough that he should have gotten by now over the idea that he’s invincible. Everyone knows the water is hot and the crust is thin. He goes out anyway, at night and drunk. What could happen? I guess he got wise real fast. Maybe the Park Service should post photos of him and this incident along the geyser trails.
