At least two people have died and five others have been injured after a rollercoaster carriage flipped over mid-ride at a Mexican theme park yesterday. The carriage derailed and plunged to the ground at the La Feria amusement park in Mexico City.
The Mexico City attorney general's office said two men aged 18 and 21 died of head and other injuries in the crash. Preliminary investigations have found there was a mechanical failure on the Quimera ride, causing a carriage to come loose and fall from a height of 33 feet.
Authorities are treating the accident as a case of negligent homicide. Video circulating on social media showed the car flipping nearly upside down and smashing into a metal loop on the rollercoaster.
A vendor at the park told local news outlet El Universal that she saw a passenger thrown from the car, and that other riders hit their heads as the coaster advanced at high speed while dragging the flailing, final car.

This is what happens in a corrupt society where anyone and everyone can be bought off. I wonder how much the inspector, if there even was one, was paid to pass this ride.
When in Mexico, don’t drink the water, don’t use the banks, don’t go to amusement parks...
Maybe I can win me a trip to Mexico on The Price is Right!
No thanks, I’ll stay on the ground. Bet there isn’t much safety monitoring of Mexican roller coasters.
Accidents like this happen everywhere.
Apparently its safer riding on the top of trains
I want to hear Stan Ridgway’s take on this.
Seriously, very sad, feel bad for victims and loved ones.
AND DON’T EAT THE FISH IN RESTAURANTS!!!
brother-in-law deathly ill, Mexican hospital couldn’t help, his family came to take him home but they had to pay thousands of dollars before they let him out.
I don’t ride on rollercoasters—or any other carnival rides—in the USA! Why would anyone want to be slung to fear or vomit—or both?
“Mexican roller coaster anyone?”
No way!
I’m sure Mexico has higher standards for their space program.

I hear ya. I don’t like being jerked around. I like the sensation of going fast but not the sudden jerks or the sensation of falling - especially if I am being thrown to the ground!
Its all fun and games until somebody gets their head crushed by a roller coaster.
Mexico has always been a third rate clusterhump of a country - the only place I’ve been that has warm ice, plus we got robbed at gunpoint by the “cops” on the beach at Zihuatanejo (1974). Haven’t been back.
I rode a small Mexican roller coaster in my late teens and it was the most rickety, scary thing. Wouldnt think of riding it these days, when Im no longer feeling immortal.
This is why you get on a roller coaster in the first place. The sense of danger.
Just the shlubs that got ‘greased’ out of their money in an earlier post. They’d buy in........... Oh. Now they can’t afford it. :-(
“I regret that I never rode the Cyclone Racer at the Pike in Long Beach when I was younger.”
I will never regret not riding that thing as many times as I stood beside it looking up at it. No regrets at all. Why would I want to pay to ride that thing, get sick, and throw up? I enjoyed the Pike back then. Lots of fun, but to me the Cyclone Racer was a tad more than I wanted.
