Still in the prototype stages, this medical device is set to 'observe bodily movements and functions', and is capable of monitoring the progression of certain diseases.
'Disguised as a flower pot, the omnipresent detection system can observe bodily movements and functions, such as heart rate, gait, and ultimately the progression of certain diseases, to help prevent negative outcomes that may be costly or worst, fatal,' Barclays analysts wrote in a note following the event.
It seems at-home health monitoring devices are the wave of the future, as earlier this year, scientists unveiled high tech 'smart' pajamas that monitor heartbeat, breathing and posture could soon be available. The cotton nightwear is equipped with sensors that can detect the sleep quality of the wearer but will cost between £75 and £150 ($100 to $200). Five self-powered sensors sewn into the shirt's lining will provide continuous monitoring of breathing patterns and the amount of REM sleep the person gets.
REM sleep occurs at intervals during the night and is characterized by rapid eye movements, dreaming and bodily movement.
Four of the sensors measure pressure, or a body pressed against a bed. The fifth, is positioned over the chest and senses rapid pressure changes, which provides information about heart rate and breathing.
'Smart apparel with embedded self-powered sensors can revolutionize human behavior monitoring...' said associate professor Dr Trisha Andrew at the University of Massachusetts.

I’m looking forward to it.
It just seems to me to be one more unnecessary thing to worry about.
Sounds like Big Brother again.
“itll Make you a better drive”
In the same way that having a cop following you make you a better driver.
I am 63 now. I am hoping that by the time that this stuff becomes mandatory (and it will), I will be gone or at least retired from driving.
Seems like hospitals or nursing homes would be a better place for them.
I just signed with

Their App.
Where is The “Nasty” bits?
My medicare advantage plan calls us daily wanting to come out to our house and assess us. We keep telling them we are good and if we are having problems we will see our doctor. They still keep calling.
I’d burn my house to the ground before I would ever allow one of these NSA devices past my threshold.
It can monitor my middle finger movement.
There are some insurance companies that charge premiums according to your weight, smoking, excercise, etc. They’d do better charging how much you use. Some people healthy people go to the doctor every other week. Other people may not have seen a doctor for 10 years.
Alexa, Echo, flower pots. What’s next?
None will ever darken my door. Take your so called ‘smart’ devices and the IOT and shove it.
Eric Blair is somewhere smiling at this I’m sure. He was just 20+ years ahead of his time.
I’m beginning to think we Baby Boomers are checking out at just the right time.
At some level it’s good to be old. As time goes on , my give-a-sh** level “adjusts.
If you have a smart phone or computer with mike and camera you have them already in your home monitoring you.
‘And to think that they advertised one of their early products like this’
Many of us remember this ad, thanks
