Confusing “credible” with “plausible”, a common mistake.
A credible source is one that may be checked independently by a neutral party, and stands up to intense inquiry. A plausible source is one that stands up to superficial scanning, but going into scrutiny in depth, falls apart with varying degrees of rapidity.
First impressions are powerful, all right, but are often subject to considerable subsequent examination.
And resulting disillusionment.
