It's perfectly ok. I, too, typically found myself voting for Blue Cheer or someone like that in such a debate.

But I bought the score to the overture to The Flying Dutchman (composed in 1841) and was astounded by what he had the strings playing and he did with the brass. Check out this video and go to 8:50 and listen to the strings after the break. The man easily set the stage for metal over a century later.

Imagine what he coulda done with Marshall stacks at Bayreuth.
