Wasn’t a Democrat judge impeached and convicted and still was elected to Congress.

That is true, but not what I meant. I meant a person who has been convicted of a crime (not connected to public office and impeachment), and is in jail, can still run for office.

I think some minor candidates for President over the years have met that description. Beto isn’t currently in jail, but has been convicted of crimes, and may yet end up behind bars again.
