Commuters save girl after dad jumps with her in front of subway train in Bronx

On a crowded platform during the morning rush in the Bronx, commuters jumped into action to save a little girl's life.

Police say a 45-year-old man jumped onto the subway tracks Monday morning while holding onto his 5-year-old daughter.

The man, later identified as Fernando Balbuena-Flores, was hit by an oncoming 4 train and was pronounced dead at the scene. However, his daughter managed to find a safe spot and was not seriously hurt.

There was a graveyard everyone called the ‘Spanish graveyard’ in Illinois where I grew up .. so called because the Spanish were present along the Mississippi [they held St. Louis for a time.] There were farming families in Illinois where I grew up and in neighboring Missouri who acquired their land in the form of Spanish land grants; the Spanish did what they could to attract settlers from the east. Then there were French, of course. There’s a place in Missouri settled under French rule where people still speak a bastardized form of French.

I've worked with a number of folks from Puerto Rico, and they were all good folk, but they all did seem to want to return to the island when they retired with nice pensions.

You must've been talking to the wrong Puerto Ricans, since, almost all that I know do not mention moving back to Puerto Rico, even if they want to visit there often.

When it comes to wanting to become independent, again, you have no idea how Puerto Ricans feel about that. No doubt it is what you wish to happen, but, ain't ever gonna happen. California will become independent before Puerto Rico.

And, revoking citizenship is also out of the question, even if P.R. became independent. It's already been mentioned decades ago that, if P.R. did become independent, that Puerto Ricans would get to choose whether to remain U.S. citizens or not.

So, you're losing on all counts.

But, don't let the P.R. nightmares get to you. I'm pretty sure you'll survive, even with your hate.

Send up a prayer with me in thanksgiving that the poor little girl was not seriously injured (physically). She will always live with this horrible memory of her papa's last moments, and his insane intention to kill her, too..
