I have a handgun I'd like to sell to get a different model. Since so many websites are anti-gun (e.g.: Craigslist) what other options are there?
I'm not a dealer, so Gun Broker isn't the best option with fees, FFL to FFL transfers plus I have approximately 1,000 rounds I'd like to sell as well.
Thought about flea markets but not sure I can just walk into one and sell or trade. My goal is to stay in state to avoid the FFL to FFL transfers but want to do it legally.
What are my options or what am I missing?
Thank you.
Sold a few that way. One trick I learned was to get a dealer at the show to run the background check which I pay for. If the buyer doesn’t want to do the background check you’re better off not selling to them anway.
Keep it and gift it to your children when you’re gone. I’d recommend not running it through an FFL, the less records there are available to the federal and state governments the better. I don’t sell my guns, there will come a time when it will be important that the government not have access to who owns what firearms.
Good catch on the “doing something legally”! I missed that.
Not sure I understand why you would sell a gun you have 1,000 rounds of ammo for. Good chance the ammo is worth more than the gun.
Does Iowa require a check on private sales? If not, you can probably just do a FTF transaction. Do some serious research to make sure whatever you end up doing is legal.
I live in Phoenix and we have a gun dealer called Tombstone Tactical that will take your gun in as trade and comply with all the paperwork. Not sure on the ammo though.
Based on the thread, I’m leaning towards keeping the gun and ammo and purchasing another gun for my carry and conceal.
My Dad used to say “it’s not eating any hay. Why would you sell it?” He was a child during the depression. Those people all were frugal for life.
That is probably what most anywhere will make.
As am I. I remember when you could go into a Sears sports department and buy rifles, shotguns, etc., and ammo. Kind of like some WallyMarks stores do today.
LOL!! I Love that. It’s more about do I want have more than one and can I carry it around in my pocket. I’m leaning towards keeping it and buying a hammerless gun.
I have a hammerless S+W .38. It’s a nice little pistol. It is safe to carry unholstered in a pocket. It is also very simple to operate. It goes boom every time you pull the trigger. A trait that may be very valuable if you are under duress during an attack/confrontation.
That’s exactly why I want one. Be able to throw it in my pocket and while I’ve never had an issue with my .40, don’t want to chance it.
