took me 20 yrs to own another dog after my husky/wolf hybrid. She was the best. Didn’t follow me around the house, loved the snow like me, and was super smart. The rat dawg i have now makes me laugh but no comparison.

It’s amazing to me that dogs can be just like humans. I’ve owned ones that are sharp as a tack...seem to be on the same wavelength as me. Others are very lovable...but dumb as a rock (the two Yorkie-poos we have now)....we don’t expect these guys to do anything but eat, get in the way and bark at the cat (who is multiples of IQ points beyond them).

Dog diversity! oohrah! My absolute fave was a blue merle collie. Most consistent breed at the time. Rarely see any now. If I ever do get another dog, size is relevant due to strength issues (sitting on my butt and reading the news), I’ll probably go with an Australian Shepherd mix. Was my son’s and I miss it. Couldn’t handle a husky now. REALLY don’t like tiny dogs.

Our 6 1/2 month old Cavalier is a Houdini puppy. She can get out of almost anything, baby gates, even a latched crate, can’t tell you the number of times we have thought she was secure, but come home to be met at the door by her. We have never had a smart Cavalier, so living with her is like sailing in uncharted waters.

Great story re Joe. I had a border collie, Sweet Pea, and next door was his partner in crime, Abraham. Abe would get out at midnight and whimper outside the window, wake Sweet Pea up. He’d slide the window open with his NOSE, launch off the couch, and get out.

One time they ran out of town and down about 5 miles to the dump!! They were spotted there for several days but nobody could catch them!! Just having a hullabaloo. Finally they went to the little market near there and crashed. Owner called me - “Your dogs are down here.”

That wild streak is not far tucked under the thin veneer of domestication, esp the herders. Too funny

I had a border collie who unwrapped EVERY SINGLE Almond Roca in a can with his little black lips one night. I came out that morning - looked like there had been a huge caterpillar hatching! He never missed a beat - didn’t get sick or anything. Those border collies are amazing.

Sweet Pea was a smart Border Collie. A very smart breed.
I miss having a dog, but I live in an apartment now and don’t really want to walk it a couple of times a day. Have a rotten kittie now, “DaisyJane,” who is a tri-colored Tabby, very feisty girl, bites her mom to get her way.
