Many hotels have levers rather than knobs, so that would make it a lot easier for a dog, particularly if the door opens out.
Brittanys like to take long runs and show off their independence. She was very opportunistic about hiding near a door she knew was opening, and bolting outside.
It's entirely possible a hotel staff member checked the room, the dog bolted, and the employee was reluctant to own up.
My Brittany was dumb in a lot of way (like identifying threats) but really smart about being a good house companion, making friends, and getting loose.
BINGO! We have a winner!
Simple: the doggie door!
I find border collies and Australian Shepard to be almost brilliant.
I had a German Shepard that was quite intelligent. A Pit/chocolate mutt I had wasnt too dull.
Id like to try owning a Belgian Malinois. They seem incredibly brilliant and athletic.
My daughter was visiting us from Ft. Polk, LA where her husband was stationed. Her dog escaped the dog sitter off into the LA woods/swamps. Not good. I told her to catch next plane back and go out in back yard and call her name loudly. Hours later dog returned safely as hoped...to their back yard. A nail biter.
It’s hard for me to watch dog movies.
I’m still trying to get over Old Yeller dying.
I know Borders are smart, but how did she get out of a locked room?
= = = = = = = = = =
They left the spare key/key card on the table?
You make a good point. They open in & they’re usually pretty heavy. I know my elderly father has had trouble pulling open hotel doors because they’re so heavy.
Kind of hard to believe ... door would swing in towards the dog and the door wouldn’t move .... kind of going with the staff getting tired of the barking and let it out.
I can’t imagine losing one of my dogs.
I would be honored to have this determined, tenacious, loyal, caring individual working for me.
Leni
One of the most beautiful places on earth!
While she could have been let out, it was a border collie. Those dogs are smart. I had a border collie which could turn on the stove, climb trees, and figured out how to get to the Christmas presents on top of the refrigerator. Open a door? That’s easy.
So the dog opened the door, went thru the lobby (the clerk saw a dog running) then somehow got the outside door open. Whew. I think someone let the dog out.
Good thing he didn’t wander into a Cambodian neighborhood.
A Border Collie.
I totally believe that she figured out how to open the door. She probably disconnected the door alarm and rewired the motel to code while she was at it.
One knows how to break into my office....And it's a door knob...not a handle type.
He only does it when it's thundering...or other loud noises. July 4th,,and New Years night...
Never had a BC that didn't hate very loud noises.........
They are smarter than me.....
