Thomas Cook, a British travel company thats been around for more than 100 years, met with shareholders on Sunday in the companys fight to avoid bankruptcy.
Thomas Cook confirmed Friday that it is seeking £200 million in new capital.
The companys largest shareholder is Chinese investment company Fosun. [ ]
A collapse could leave around 150,000 travelers from Britain stranded, along with tens of thousands of travelers from other countries. The British government may have to lease planes to get its citizens home.

Have wondered how “travel agencies” stay in business at all these days. There’s a Liberty Travel office I pass occasionally and I’m baffled the door is still open.
It is possible that in an age of one-time inventory management that those flight homes might not be paid for. Good luck findhng an airline that will let you fly for free.

My brother and his wife use a travel agency to book many of their travels. They do it all over the phone and via email.
Liz can barely be bothered with the Bahamas. She certainly isn’t going to help the travelers out.
Exactly. It is a nice to have thing but not a necessity.
I made sure to highlight that fact. The phrase “deal with the devil” absolutely applies, and what they’re experiencing is poetic justice whether they want to acknowledge it or not.
The company was doomed when they quit putting out Cook’s Continental Timetable.
Apparently they have an airline. There’s a photo of an jet emblazoned with “thomas cook”. Airlines are notorious for failing into bankruptcy. (Pun intended)
I just found them a major hassle and nothing marked you more like a tourist then handing those over in lieu of cash.
