Good morning!
Week 3 of the NFL is already fast approaching, but if you're looking for some marquee games between evenly matched teams, this probably isn't your weekend. Only five of the 16 games currently feature a line of three points or less and only one Rams at Browns on Sunday night can be considered appointment viewing.
Two lopsided games set to make history However, if you're a fan of mismatches that are over after the first drive, you're in luck! Both the Dolphins-Cowboys (-21.5) and the Jets-Patriots (-22.5) opened with Jerry World-sized lines that are also making a little bit of history.
According to Nick Veronica of the Buffalo News, the last time that two teams were favored by 20 or more points in the same week was 1987's Week 5. And that was only because Joe Montana had crossed the picket line to play a Falcons team loaded with replacement players while Randy White and the Cowboys faced the same situation with the Eagles.
Interestingly, neither team covered the spread.

FWIW, NFL teams giving 20+ points historically don’t cover. I think I read they were 2-9 all time in such situations.
I’d take the Jets and the points - their Defense is good enough that you can see them staying within 3 TDs. Not sure about the Dolphins. They are putrid on both sides of the ball.
Wouldn’t watch that anti-american s#&tshow through a galvanized bucket.
They lost me at Kapernick.
The NFL, NBA, and even MLB have all made changes to rules to increase scoring. It follows that there would be more lopsided games score wise. I believe the changes are a consequence of lower attention spans, fast action video gaming, and decrease in social interaction on a personal face to face basis of our younger fans. It’s not your grandfathers game anymore.
Those teams are terrible and would most likely lose to Alabama and Clemson. The thing is that they are trying to lose so it’s just a matter of by how much.
I think the safest thing would be to combine the two in a teaser to knock the spread down a touchdown and take the favorites.
The Jets are not deep and are dealing with injuries to the D, especially at corner where they are taking guys off the street.
The jets with 3 TDs against the Patriots?
You’ve got to be kidding!
The Patriots are PF 76 and PA 3!
3 in two games. Their defense is the best it has ever been.
Meanwhile, the Jets are PF 19 and PA 40.
I’ll take the bet, if you’re offering.
They both don't work on Sunday.
Not sure what makes the Rams/Browns appointment viewing. I think the Rams at only minus three is a strong pick.
For the Cowboys and the Pats this is a good week to get the second string some work. Da Boyz should pull Zeke after he gets 200 rushing yards and let Pollard graze a bit.
I have a feeling the Cowboys Dolphins game might be closer than expected.
Seems to always work that way in football, when there is such a large point spread, I have to think even the Dolphin players do have some pride.
Dolphins would still destroy those teams.
"Chicks dig the long ball." Sports has been bending over backwards to get more females to watch.
I have pretty much quit watching NBA and NFL games but still enjoy MLB Baseball which still gives one time to relax, socialize with your buddies or clients, drink a beer and basically wile away a couple of hours. But even at the games, fans are getting more and more into the cheering, standing up, costume mode of the modern era.
Sure. I’ll take the Jets, +23.5 (current line) and bet you one internet dollar that neither of us has to pay regardless of outcome.
That’s a very smart way to take advantage of two probable blowouts.
“Not sure what makes the Rams/Browns appointment viewing. I think the Rams at only minus three is a strong pick.”
The Rams haven’t exactly clicked on offense yet but neither have the Browns, outside of two big plays by OBJ on Monday. The game could be good but it feels more like a 21-17 type game to me.
Cowboys probably won’t make that spread. Once they get 3 TD’s ahead, they will eat clock with their excellent backs.
I don’t know about that. The Rams scored 27 and 30 in their first two games. That’s pretty good offense.
I just saw the second half of your post. Were some of the Rams points scored by their defense?
