A strong Sierra cold front packing winds gusting up to 50 mph dropped the first snow of the season Monday in the mountains along the California-Nevada line and damaged a small airplane that was blown off the runway at an airport north of Reno.
Rain was falling in the valleys around Reno and Sparks Monday afternoon as the cold front sent temperatures plummeting across western Nevada. Temperatures were 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Sundays highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning effective until 6 p.m. Monday for most of northern Nevada because of high winds and low humidity that could create dangerous fire conditions. It was canceled along the eastern front of the Sierra at midday because of the rain.

I was watching Weather Nation to check the forecast before bed and the Weathergirl points to that area of the USA map and says, “And we’re not even going to TALK about this so early in the season!”
LOL! (But then, of course, she did...)
Currently 37 here at house on Reno west side mountain this morning.
Have the “weather” flunkies named that “monster” snow storm yet?
Thinking of Bill Gates plan to spray the sky to block out the sun.
39 in the north valleys with frost on the top of the fence this morning. Could see snow on Peavine yesterday afternoon and snow on the runs on Mt Rose as we drove south on Virginia. Not ready to break out the snow blower quite yet.
I don’t believe it, they must be hittin the pipe and hallucinating, photos are all doctored and fake,. Everybody knows that Man Made Global Warming is cooking the planet and stuff like this is Impossible.
The Climate Change “Snowflakes” are shivering in their boots. LOLARMAOOTF
Not yet. “Polar vortex” and other descriptions developed by “weather press agents” are available at a moment’s notice.
Fall has started in AZ.
Yippie!
Point being that this "global warming" is such a bunch of nonsense. The summer just gone by was no hotter than any other summer in my 50+ years and now it's getting time to rake the leaves, stack the firewood and winterize the yard. Just another typical year in New England.
The veggie garden is showing signs of an early winter.
A lot of future-casts are saying this one will be rough for the East.
Still really hot in Alabama. Forecast for today is 98.
Please send us some cold!!!!
And Costco has their Christmas trees out for sale.
Yes, what’s with the Weather Channel giving names to snowstorms, as if they are hurricanes?
Well, they were hoping the recent hurricane had hit the mainland US and cause great destruction, so that they could use it as evidence of global warming.
I think this may be the same incident. Anybody into aviation may know of a bright red STOL bush plane built by Mike Patey called Draco. It's been to Oskosh a couple of times, and at the STOL competition in Alaska.
Mike crashed Draco yesterday in Reno trying to take off in too strong of a crosswind.
He had his wife and one other passenger on board. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Looks pretty.
***spray the sky to block out the sun.***
I remember when the plan was to spread ground up coal on the ice fields to prevent THE COMING ICE AGE, back in the 1960s and 1970s.
If they are worried about Glo-Bull Warming, why not start a nuclear war so we can counteract it with a Nuclear Winter!
