In Cape Cod, right-wing demagogues are using the politics of fear to demand a mass cull of sharks and seals. ..snip.. It turned out that the aftermath also fit the pattern of 9/11, demonstrating once again how statistically low-risk but viscerally alarming threats especially when those threats come from perceived foreign elements or new arrivals are ripe for demagoguery. Two days after Medicis death, Howie Carr, a talk-radio host in nearby Boston, took time out from railing against the Mueller witch-hunt to warn of the growing menace on Cape Cod, being abetted by environmental extremists. a Cape radio host, Patrick Desmarais, could veer between his circumspect attitude to gun control in the wake of massacres in Texas and Ohio, and his unshakeable certainty on the shark question. Im a cull-the-seals-and-sharks guy, he told his listeners. .snip..
The guest on both shows was County Commissioner Ronald Beaty Jr., a right-wing Republican who rode Donald Trumps coat-tails into office in traditionally liberal Cape Cod, despite having once served federal prison time for mailing death-threats to George H.W. Bush. ..snip..
Meanwhile, the group is united in their view of the environmental extremists, whom they perceive to be pushing a pro-shark agenda behind closed doors, loyal only to their research and fundraising. Their anger focuses on the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a local non-profit taking advantage of the unprecedented opportunities to observe and tag sharks in shallow water. The Conservancys public safety message, often blithely delivered, is that responsible humans have no choice but to surrender the habitat, to what Kartsounis called a Jurassic state. ..snip..
Trump himself, according to his own tweets and the testimony of Stormy Daniels, also seems to have long harboured an intense personal animosity towards sharks.

It will give you an idea of why I say the White shark problem in Massachusetts is unsolvable as long as the seals and sharks are Federally protected. - Tom
Sounds like the shark attacks are causee by politicians blowing seals
Kip Adotta. Wet Dream.
I need to read it later and will comment again but this is so like the apex predator battles on land!! Fascinating. Back later...
Sharks are culling the demonrats.
Frame it that way and AOC and the rest of the squad will be out there immediately and clubbing the cute little baby seals themselves.
Lots of sharks on the Cape now. Lefties see that as ‘great.’ Human victims not so much.
Like mass shootings....
Excellent point.
Uhhh. I doubt it.
Some baby seals have it tough, naturally.
from the article; The animals are everywhere
When you see these seals, birthing and breeding in the way they are, with the fights going on between the bulls and the calves, with the bull that wants to breed and goes up to a cow thats still nursing its pup, the bull would sometimes grab it and just kill it,
Sounds like the wolf and mountain lion popuations in the west. Environmentalists make humans and cows lunch or dinner for them and the enviro-kooks set acceptable human losses. The livestock loss to wolves is huge.

I’m more for culling ticks- mass culling- DDT- Now in Mass- saw last night mosquitos are carryign EEE (Equine encephalitis) and infecting people quite a bit now- they are startign to spray for them again-
We used to spray but enviros stopped it- and mosquitos erupted- making summer pretty miserable- (not to mention the black flies- deer flies etc)
but the tick issue is bad- and getting much worse- many many folks are getting infected- compare that to the number of folks getting attacked by sharks- the numbers aren’t even close- There is a tick epidemic sweeping the US- and noone seems to be up in arms about it even though it is completely ruining many people’s lives/health
You don’t have to cull sharks if you take away their food source. Honestly seals stink. They are nasty and I think as a sign of frendship and good faith, we eradicate the seals there, process the meat and fur and send it all to Greenland with a note, “from your future peps, with love The US” . Sharks leave cuz sir ain’t no food. Greenland loves us, because nothing says love like seal meat, making it safe to go back into the water and Greenland to love us again!
There is so much we can learn from Great White Sharks.
They invented television.
Winnah!
On the other hand, the amount of shark and seal reduction necessary to “resolve” the trouble seems excessive.
I’ll limit the ocean excursions to wading, and if I want to swim, swim in clean water.

I think the idea of a seal and shark cull is absurd.
It’s the sea. Leave it alone and be damn glad that much life still thrives in it.
There is nearly no life right along the coast of much of South Asia, and what’s there is toxic and/or dying out. There are similar brown-outs in places along the US Gulf coast.
Sometimes good husbandry is to just leave it the eff alone.
Really? --- but you're spot on.

You don't have a shark problem, you have a government problem.
