THIS DAY IN HISTORY - THE GREAT FIRE OF NEW YORK
September 21, 1776
Five days after British troops occupied New York City a great fire broke out and burned about 1/3 of the city to the ground.
Arson was suspected by both sides in the battle; Patriots accused the British, the British accused the Patriots.

I didn’t realize that the East River was originally called the East or Sound River and the Hudson was the North or Hudson River.
Brooklyn was spelled Brookland, on the ferry stop.
