I think probably you didn’t burn it as an ISO- If you have windows 10, right click on the file you downloaded, and choose ‘Burn disk image”

Okay, I'm doing that now. The file I'm burning says 'image' in the file name. There's a second big download file along with it. Should I burn that file to disk, as well?

There's even a third one, but it appears to contain zero data.

Thanks (I think) to the latest WIN10 update, my HP wireless laserjet printer is no longer wireless.

I DESPISE Microsoft, but am not computer savvy enough to install Linux. I’m sure I’d set the computer on fire if I tried.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

Trust me, it is not that hard at all anymore. Just a few clicks and you are off and running. Holler if you need the detailed step by step. :)

Okay, the second large file has the same name as the first, but it's a 'PART file', whatever that is. The one file I already burned to disk is a 'Disk Image file'.

Should I also burn the second file to the disk?

Oh you opened it up, go back to the one file that holds all those. It will be the one file total it downloaded. that is the one to right click on and “burn disk image”.

i downloaded it from this page

https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=267

and it only had one .iso file -

forgot to mention, you have to use the right one- it depends on your system whether it’s 32 bit or 64 bit- probably if you have newer computer it’s 64- the page i listed is for 64 bit

The download “package” should have been just one file. You want to burn this one file to the disk as the image. It will automatically open that up into the separate files it needs to read as it burns it to the disk and make it bootable for you.

I didn’t open either of the files. I just see them listed in my downloads folder. I burned the one called ISO image to the disk, but not the other file.

Should I?

Okay, I’ve now restarted the computer twice with the Linux disk inserted, but nothing. How do I boot from the disk?

But that's not what happened on my end. My computer downloaded three files. I burned the one called 'ISO image'.

I'm about to say eff this sh!t, and toss this $400 piece of crap in the alley.

Wait, No problem at all. If you don’t mind lets walk through it? Delete those and the disk and lets start over if you are game? Something is wrong with that download if it was more than just one file. Bob gave you the correct link for what you want. Here it is again, I would download it from the kernel.com mirror site.

Okay, I’ll delete my previous downloads and start fresh with a new DVD blank.

I’ll use the link you provided this time. Thank you.

My privilege! Now we will make sure we are making this correctly first so there is no question about the disk being correct, then if it still does not boot we need to check your boot order on your computer to make sure boor from CD is first in the order. They are always default as set up that way but there may be some reason why it is not and it needs to be put back in default order. No problem. :)

Are you familiar with getting into the BIOS setup on that machine? Just asking in case we need to do that to set the boot order. If not then what make and model is it and I will get that and list exactly how to go do it.

Okay, I did as you suggested, but the download time at kernel.org was over four hours. I bailed on that after about ten minutes, then went back into my downloads and the extra two Linux files were gone.

Alrighty, why not see if I can just burn the one file to disk and see what happens?

I’ll get back to you in a minute.
