He wanted to sign with a good team quickly before this became public knowledge, otherwise, the Pat’s would have told him “sorry, we don’t need this crap following us.” Now they are stuck with paying him what he got guaranteed, even tho he kept this from them. Knowing the Pat’s, they might just cut his ass anyway and move one down the road. Bill does not take this crap lightly. He will cut the bait and move on.
I find it hard to believe that there are not escape clauses for the Patriots in these contracts.
Think about it logically—if one day after signing the guy was arrested for a mass murder and convicted—you really believe the Pats would have to pay the full contract?
I doubt it—but we will see.
“Now they are stuck with paying him what he got guaranteed”
I seriously doubt it.
NFL contracts, for many years, have had a “good moral character”, and “reflect poorly on the organization” type clause in their contracts.
The Patriots should be able to kick this guy to the curb, without paying him a dime.
“He wanted to sign with a good team quickly before this became public knowledge, otherwise, the Pats would have told him sorry, we dont need this crap following us. Now they are stuck with paying him what he got guaranteed, even tho he kept this from them.”
And it should be noted that the Pats ran to the phone and called Browns agent the minute they heard there was trouble in Oakland, and had him signed within a half an hour of his release. Brown did move quickly and the Pats quickly and anxiously accommodated him.
