My husband is also a cigar smoker. We go to some really nice cigar bars here where the ladies sip single-malt scotch while the guys light up and play dominoes. I allow smoking in my home. I have no health issues from “second-hand smoke” and I grew up with a father who smoked unfiltered Lucky Strikes.

Thanks for your open-minded attitude toward my little vice — unlike some of the people here on FR, who sound just like Leftists any time tobacco is mentioned.

I recently have been under medical care for a condition I won’t bore you with other than to say that I’m expected to make a complete recovery in about a month. I’ve even lost 25 pounds or so.

They worked me up pretty good, with the chest ultrasound, stress test and all. And you know what — my heart and lungs are sound for a man of 61 years.

Naturally, when they asked me if I smoked, I replied — “occasional cigar or pipe, never cigarettes.”

My conclusion has always been that cigars or pipes in moderation are an acceptable risk. Just puff, don’t inhale. Cigarettes — well, you’re just plain using tobacco the wrong way. Not that I hate cigarette smokers.

Back in happier days, it was sort of accepted that old men smoked pipes. Look at those black-and-white pictures.

I smoke an occasional pipe and occasional cigar, just because I know that by exercising my right to do as I please, there is a Leftist out there somewhere whose head is exploding because they cannot control my personal life.

That, and I find the pipe relaxing. Cigars are usually when I am with guys hanging out...:)

I grew up in a house where I was the only one in a family of eight who didn’t smoke, and it never bothered me, but as I got older, I refused to go to the store and buy them for my mom. I don’t care if people smoke, but I do dislike it when I see people ignoring no smoking signs, particularly near hospital entrances, but it is more of a rule-breaking aspect rather than smoking.

I don’t smoke often, but when I do, I am always by myself, outdoors in my hammock or in front of a fire...and I always make sure I shower before I get into bed for the night-I don’t like going to bed smelling like smoke, and I know my wife doesn’t like it.

Consider yourself fortunate.

I watched my dad, who I would not have fought when I was younger, go from being very active, to having to slow his physical activity, to go to needing oxygen occasionally to all the time and then finally confined to a chair because the effort of walking to the bathroom exhausted him.

All from COPD because he smoked as a teenager to his mid fifties.

I pray it never happens to anyone in your family.

I personally think smoking, inhaling smoke into your lungs along with all the added in chemicals, is about the single dumbest thing a person can do to their body.
