Some people heard it as a boom, some as a bang, some as a series of explosions. Imagine the noise of a dump truck being dropped from 100 feet in the air onto pavement. It shook buildings.
Many people said it sounded like it was coming from inside their building on their block. But it wasnt just local; people heard it around the same time across a huge swath of northern New York. In response to an Enterprise Facebook post, people wrote that they had heard it as far west as Cranberry Lake, as far north as Malone, as far east as AuSable Forks and as far south as Eagle Bay, plus throughout the Tri-Lakes villages.
That boom was heard in Saranac Lake 10:13 a.m. Some people also reported hearing a later one, perhaps around 1 p.m.

It could have been some military test, or aliens?
Azathoth, awakening .
Most likely an airburst of a comet (or rocky meteor) breaking up in the atmosphere.
Consider it a mini-Tunguska or other such impact.
Sonic boom.
Havent heard one of those since they banned the military from flying past the sound barrier...back in the late 60s and early 70s.
BA BOOM! Then you hear the sound of the jet engines sometimes.
Excellent comparison.
I mean, who hasn't ever heard that sound before
Sonic boom. I had one here a few yrs ago that sounded like someone hit the side of my house with a big baseball bat.
If it was indeed a sonic boom but it sounded as you describe, the object making it must have been at very high altitude.
5 days ago had some chasers upn`here mountains maybe 2000 ft altitude E-W at 9PM headed toward Saranac
Sounds like the Russians (or Chinese) were doing a bit of mapping here. Nothing to worry about.
All over the area up here in Placerville California there are mystery booms coming from the south..
Even a facebook page dedicated to it.

No one knows what causes them.
It was more like a dump truck with Jimmy Hoffa in it. Not that....I've ever heard that before.
A sonic boom from a jet would not cover that amount of space. Maybe we were testing a super sonic missile like the Russians? Pittsburgh AFB has been closed for many years now, no more F-111s to blame.
Rattled windows for a mile around and made the local paper and could be heard in towns up and down the valley.
"Residents call 911 to report mystery booms".
Good one.
Though rare, New England stills experiences tectonic activity. The Moodus noises have been known phenomena for centuries.
Didn’t the same kind of thing happen last year and eventually a perp blowing off homemade bombs was caught?
Seneca guns? https://islandlifenc.com/whats-sound-seneca-guns/
DARKS!!! What did you DO???
It could have been some military test, or aliens?
Could have been a nuke blast to clear out a nest of aliens.
