This is an argument I get so often from people who dont want to take a stand against abortion or get involved with pro-life work. They always say that other people dont believe that abortion is killing a human so we cant force our morality on them. Just because we are pro-life does not mean we should tell someone who is not pro-life they should not have an abortion.
I will be honest; this to me is really just a cop-out, an excuse for people to not take a stand or get involved. The fact is, abortion is the taking of a human beings life and whether someone refuses to see the truth does not change a clear fact. Just because you say that you dont believe something that is true does not make it untrue.
Lets look at a few instances in law where peoples disagreement with a truth does not make a difference in the law at all:
1. NAMBLA, an organization that believes that it is morally ok for grown men to sleep with young boys. Yes, this is a real organization that really believes the rest of the world is pushing their morality on them by enforcing child molestation laws on them. Should we change the law to allow these perverse men to have sexual relations with young boys just because they believe it is ok? Of course not.
2. Civil Rights Laws, there are still those who think minorities should be segregated and treated as less then human. The whole Civil Rights Movement was forcing a morality on America that needed to be forced. It was imperative that we, as a nation, stood against those who would treat any human person as less than human and establish personhood rights for every single human person.
3. Womens Suffrage, there are still those who believe that women should not have the right to vote I think you get the point.
The fact is, we, as a nation, have a duty to pass laws and protect people from inhuman treatment whether or not someone disagrees or not. We, as fellow humans, have a duty to stand up for any fellow human person when he or she is being oppressed, dehumanized or killed by the thousands every day.
Morality is forced on people every day and that is not a bad thing. We force our morality on criminals when they commit crimes, we force our morality on bar owners when we tell them they cant allow smoking in their establishments. The fact is that almost all laws are forcing some form of morality on someone.
I understand that some people think that life does not begin at fertilization, but that does not change the fact that it does. The moment the sperm and egg are united, a unique human person is formed and has the right to full protection as a human person. When that child is terminated or aborted, that is an act of homicide.
Hom-i-cide:noun 1. The killing of one human being by another. 2. A person who kills another; murderer.
So back to the question at hand I Am Pro-life But Can I Force My Morality On Anyone Else?
Yes. In fact, you have a moral and biblical obligation to take a stand and love your neighbor as yourself. ( Luke 10:27 ) If you know that your neighbor ( fellow human person) is being killed by the thousands every day, you must stand up and be a voice for them.
Not a question of forcing morality, a question of defending an innocent person being murdered.
Every law is based on “somebody’s” morality.
No,you cannot force somebody to respect life. However, that doesn’t you have to support their desecration of life.
WOW! Life BUMP!
... or lack thereof.
When did morality become a set of standards that need permission to be promoted?
Let’s all start terming our morality as beliefs and opinions, and then they can stand toe to toe with anyone else’s beliefs and opinions.
If it is right that their beliefs and opinions can be forced on us, then it is right that our beliefs and opinions can be forced on them.
Is it really a question of morality? Any more of a morality question than questioning the killing of millions of humans in the concentration camp gas chambers in Germany?
Murder is murder and simply devaluing life by claiming that the a fetus, or a Jew, are not human or have no value and so therefor can be exterminated is wrong.
When we accept the devaluing of human life, then very bad things can and will happen and may God help us.
Lots of spineless nominally conservatives out there.
Lots of spineless Christians out there.
All law is the legislation of morality.
If bad Bill is beating up innocent Irene, you have an OBLIGATION to impose your morals on Bill.
It’s hard to imagine someone forcing their morality onto someone else in a more abrupt fashion than when a “mother” and her “doctor” use their morals to justify killing a baby.
That’s why we need a standard - not opinions. Our Creator has the only standard which not only fits with reality and our “gut feelings”, but has stood the test of time. I know - feelings are dangerous. I only added this because it re-enforces our “common sense” as humans - implanted in us at creation. Unfortunately, feelings can - and are - manipulated so are trustworthy as a basis for decisions.
The question is very simple.
We not only have the right, but the responsibility to impose or even force our morals on others. If we did not, our morals would not be respected and neither would life.
We are the moral arbiters of our nation.
A Catholic/Christian should not ask this question, because this question ultimately goes to "is there any ultimate truth?"
If NO, then the logical result is, there is no morality, killing, stealing or any act is purely subjective and with no inherent basis in good or evil. It is the law of the jungle.
At a fundamental level, the belief that abortion is acceptable is no different from thinking that the Armenian Genocide was no big deal, or the Jewish Holocaust was perfectly fine. It’s not OK to murder innocent people just because you think life would be better if those people didn’t exist.
This stuff isn’t hard if you have any sort of moral foundation. Unfortunately, the Left has no such thing.
My wife used to be pro-abortion. We have two beautiful grandchildren, the joy they bring her is indescribable. I asked her once, how would you feel if they had been ripped out of their mothers womb after being dismembered. This brought tears to her eyes.
If you don’t speak out against it, you are agreeing with it.
SIMPLE
Yes.
Next question?
If a law can be considered ‘force’ then yes, pass a law against abortion. Not much luck doing that I’d guess.
Lqssaws should reflect the morality of society as a whole. When they do not it represents tyranny by a minority. Which is what I believe we have now.
On the other hand, if immoral laws actually represent society as a whole accurately, then we have a society in deep doo-doo.
A society must have as its foundation certain beliefs that are considered absolute. When that society comes to consider no beliefs to be absolute (for example the liberal reverence for situation ethics), then there is no foundation for a civilized society. It’s pretty much where we are right now. And it is not going to end well.
A lot of people quote the admonition of Lev. 19:18: “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” as a means of silencing Christian and conservative voices but have they ever read the rest of that chapter because the verse right after that states emphatically that “you shall rebuke your neighbor and not suffer sin upon him.”
In other words, we are to speak out against sin as part of loving our neighbor.
