I followed Atkins for a number of years. While off that diet on a strict basis I had a gallstone lodge in pancreas. Doctors tell me I could have died. Had gallbladder removed. I always wondered if the low carb diet may have accelerated production of gallstones.
Also, since having gallbladder and pancreatitis pain I cannot even think of eating high fat foods. I know physically I probably can but my desire to avoid the pain I experienced I get nauseous even thinking about fried foods, bacon, hamburgers etc.
Can you eat good fats like sardines and avocados? Can you eat olive oil?
Not all fats are equal. Good fats are healthy, bad fats are not.
After being overweight all of my life, I stopped eating a low fat diet and started eating healthy fats, good proteins, all the non-strarchy vegetables I could and a moderate amount of starchy vegetable and fruits. I avoid sugar an proceed food.
Over a 5 year period I oat 50 pounds, but I don’t have the continuous feeling of hunger I had for years on a low fat diet. I do have occasional treats but for the most part, they just don’t taste good to me anymore.
I like to call my diet, the JERF diet - Just Eat Real Food
