I remember when the only people who had tattoos seemed to be criminals and sailors (many of the latter group presumably having gotten tattoos after a night of heavy drinking on shore leave).

I worked with locked up kids at one time. Many had homemade/prison-type tattoos. Some cutting, and ink and you’re there. Many featured misspellings and most were quite amateurish. They were proud of them, though.

-and: "That’s obvious. For women especially. Fashion changes, tattoos are forever. If you gave a woman an expensive jacket, but added the caveat that she had to wear it for the rest of her life, she would reject it immediately. Strange that the same women will mark up her arms, legs, breasts, etc with trendy ink. Let’s see.... what goes with a long white cotton dress and nice sandals....?"

There was an outdoor wedding at our golf course this weekend. It was a warm and sunny day.

I shook my head in pity of the women who tried to dress for the occasion with by hiding their creepy tattoos with shawls and other accessories.

No matter how they tried, they looked like they were heading to Walmart.

I had a sailor on my watch who was heavily tattooed. He knew he was dying from cancer caused by tattoos from all over the world. He went through two bouts of liver disease from the tattoos and still got them. He said he was really stupid.

I knew a sailor who had served in WW2. He had numerous tats up and down his arms.

I knew him later in his life and he deeply regretted that mistake. He wanted them off but at the time, the only solution was surgical removal at $100 per square inch. He couldn't afford it and the tattoos turned into ugly black blobs as his skin continued to lose its elasticity.
