When was Rutgers a national power? They have won one national title: 1869. That is the first year of collegiate football when there were two teams: Rutgers and Princeton. They split two games and were later named co-national champions. I’m guessing that would make Rutgers the only team in college football history who won a national championship while finishing the season being outscored by their opponents. Other than that, their football history is a big nothing.
