Most of them think no traffic laws apply. Saturday, I was making a left turn (where I had no stop sign, but the crossing road did) and a guy who was riding a bike, and looking at his phone in one hand ran the stop sign, went in front of me diagonally into a parking lot. If I bumped him I would have no doubt been at fault somehow.

It is common, especially in college towns to stop at a stop sign, then bikes go around you on both sides while you’re stopped.

I would like to see the horses and wagons. I do see the tractors at certain times of year, log trucks all the time. It still beats city life though. I can’t imagine having a neighbor just yards from an outside wall. :-)

Same here. We love to watch the wagontrains if we don't need to get somewhere. We used to ride in them back when we had horses and we had a blast. Tractors here are an everyday thing. We don't have any close neighbors except for the daughter, granddaughter, and SIL. They live here on the farm. This is the only house I can see from my front yard and they are "way over yonder", LOL I took this with my zoom lens so it's not even quite this close. We have 44 acres back in the hills.

Beautiful view. When we drove down from NYC to Alabama we passed many views like this. Straight out of the old west to this city girl’s eyes.

I don’t ride in the city for this reason, but if i was, i would
Probably be stressed from drivers almost killing me all the time too. The real answer is dedicated bike lanes so they don’t need to share space with pedestrians or drivers. Building bike infrastructure is also a good way to fight our obesity crisis.

I’m in S.E. TN between Knoxville and Chattanooga near the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest. I’m only 2 miles from I-75 so you had to pass right through my area. Our farm is in a large valley so you would never know the Interstate is anywhere close. It’s one of those farm communities that is off an exit that seems to go nowhere and is hidden from view. One day some travelers in an RV took a wrong turn at the exit and ended up on my road. They pulled in to turn around but before they pulled back out they got out of the RV and started taking pictures. When they did pull out they had a video camera pointed out the open window. LOL

No reason for motorcycles not to be allowed on any surface used by bicyclists and for the same laws to pertain to both. I’d ban bicycles from anywhere that an auto could be cited for “slow moving vehicle”. You wouldn’t let grandma cruise up a two lane highway at 5mph. Why a bike?

I have kin in Madison near the Tellico river. They grew up in Townsend and had miles and miles of caves, woods, and rivers to play in growing up.

Such a gorgeous part of the world.

horses-and-cat This is the view from my front porch. Early morning. Two geriatric horses and the cat. Doesn't show the heat or humidity of Alabama :-0

Sure is! I’m not far from Tellico. It always reminds me of the movie Deliverance. We took our horses there a lot to ride mountain trails.

We have lived here for 33 years and live in an almost 70 year old farmhouse but we love being rural. I’ve lived on a farm since we moved back to TN over 50 years ago. I spent my childhood from age two in S. FL due to asthma but we moved back to TN when I started high school. I hate the traffic of big cities and rarely go to Chattanooga or Knoxville unless I have to. Bigger than those two....forget it! I’m always happy to get back to the green hills of home.

Perhaps the key is a civil society?

Well, that might just be the answer.
