Column: O.J. Simpson should not be celebrated on the USC campus

As the USC Trojans walked through the peristyle entrance of the newly remodeled Coliseum on Saturday, they followed Clay Helton down the concrete steps toward the field, passing six oversized USC jerseys displayed on each side of the staircase recognizing the school’s six Heisman Trophy winners.

The display did not include Reggie Bush’s No. 5 after Bush forfeited the trophy and the Heisman Trust vacated his award in 2010 following an NCAA investigation that revealed he received improper benefits while in school.

While Bush’s name and number have been scrubbed away at USC, O.J. Simpson’s No. 32 jersey was prominently displayed along with USC’s other Heisman winners. Walk through the new Scholarship Tower built as part of the Coliseum’s $315-million renovation and there’s also a picture of Simpson, who won the 1968 Heisman, in a portrait recognizing USC’s national award winners.

I was hoping someone would have taken him out by now.

So? OJ served prison time years after his award earned at USC, for using a gun when trying to recover his personal property.

The accomplishments in college have no relevance to what he may have done many years later.

I agree with you.

I can’t stand that Goldman’s family, who still continue to harass OJ.

"I contend that once found innocent of the murder, no further action against him should occur."

But they will never find him "Innocent", only "Not Guilty" of an accusation.

Who is “They”? Anyone, with whom I have had an intelligent discussion, concerning the OJ trial, knows he did not do it. Goldman is sick, and although I understand his pain. It is misplaced.

Don’t act like they have anything to do with each other.

He was trying to retrieve stolen property. He did not have the gun, but a guy who went there with him, who was behind him, and that guy brandished the weapon. Everyone except Simpson pled out, he contended that he knew nothing of the weapons and at trial, it was those who pled out that stated weapons were used. To this day, nobody can prove he had a weapon, and the others have been sworn to silence on the matter as a condition of their parole.

My point is not to his innocence or guilt. My point regards the words used to express a meaning.

The same reason POTUS isn’t exonerated, is because he is assumed innocent until PROVEN guilty. So the finding of the court or jury never uses the language “innocent”, rather their duty is to discern if one is found GUILTY or NOT GUILTY. Even if not guilty, one might not be innocent, but that is not the issue being judged.

(In the case of POTUS, due to the extreme prejudice of those investigating, it appears obvious that no finding of evidence to allow a charge to be made, pretty well implies he not only is not guilty of any charges possible, but probably innocent, thereby inducing the extreme hatred by those who hate Christ with degenerated souls.

Even if he had been convicted I would want the reference to him to remain-——this rush to erase history is insanity.
