Free Republic… Under the pope

Posted on 08/28/2019 9:59:42 PM PDT by RevelationDavid

I’m sure this post won’t stay up long… But as a born-again evangelical I no longer feel comfortable on this site. It has become openly and aggressively pro Catholic. Catholicism is heresy.

Thank you Jim for putting so much effort into this clearinghouse of ideas… But the bombardment of papers nonsense can a longer be tolerated by me.

God bless all who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord. God bless America

Racial slurs are equivalent to insulting the Catholics? I guess, since they treat their religion more as an identity than an authentic faith.

Ahem, the Orthodox churches say they are. They all claim the same “past.”

As long as it's "our common salvation...the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints." (Jude 1:3), then we ALL share in that true church, the body of Christ, His bride, and are living stones that make up the spiritual house established by Jesus Christ. It is SO much more than one religious denomination.

Yes, that was an interesting read. However, it should be noted that it was NOT the Protestant church(es) that advocated the persecution of the Catholic immigrants but disgruntled laborers and political individuals (who may or may not have even been Protestants) who objected to the perceived threat to their jobs, their schoolchildren and their national leadership. This was finally suppressed by governmental forces and religiously tolerant church leaders. No true Christian condones what was done to those innocent people nor rationalizes the actions. The same cannot be said of the religious persecution of non-Catholics by official decrees of the Catholic hierarchy that lasted hundreds of years.

Thank you for posting this explanation yet again. It should clarify the mistaken belief some have about the Bible. Sadly though, some horses we already know will not drink the water no matter how many times they are led to it nor how parched they obviously are. ;o)

The American Protective Association Oath In 1887, Henry F. Bowers founded the nativist American Protective Association (APA) in Clinton, Iowa. Bowers was a Mason, and he drew from its fraternal ritual—elaborate regalia, initiation ceremonies, and a secret oath—in organizing the APA. He also drew many Masons, an organization that barred Catholics. The organization quickly acquired an anti-union cast. Among other things, the APA claimed that the Catholic leader of the Knights, Terence V. Powderly, was part of a larger conspiracy against American institutions. Even so, the APA successfully recruited significant numbers of disaffected trade unionists in an era of economic hard times and the collapse of the Knights of Labor. This secret oath taken by members of the American Protective Association in the 1890s revealed the depth of Protestant distrust and fear of Catholics holding public office.

I do most solemnly promise and swear that I will always, to the utmost of my ability, labor, plead and wage a continuous warfare against ignorance and fanaticism; that I will use my utmost power to strike the shackles and chains of blind obedience to the Roman Catholic church from the hampered and bound consciences of a priest-ridden and church-oppressed people; that I will never allow any one, a member of the Roman Catholic church, to become a member of this order, I knowing him to be such; that I will use my influence to promote the interest of all Protestants everywhere in the world that I may be; that I will not employ a Roman Catholic in any capacity if I can procure the services of a Protestant.

I furthermore promise and swear that I will not aid in building or maintaining, by my resources, any Roman Catholic church or institution of their sect or creed whatsoever, but will do all in my power to retard and break down the power of the Pope, in this country or any other; that I will not enter into any controversy with a Roman Catholic upon the subject of this order, nor will I enter into any agreement with a Roman Catholic to strike or create a disturbance whereby the Catholic employes may undermine and substitute their Protestant co-workers; that in all grievances I will seek only Protestants and counsel with them to the exclusion of all Roman Catholics, and will not make known to them anything of any nature matured at such conferences.

I furthermore promise and swear that I will not countenance the nomination, in any caucus or convention, of a Roman Catholic for any office in the gift of the American people, and that I will not vote for, or counsel others to vote for, any Roman Catholic, but will vote only for a Protestant, so far as may lie in my power. Should there be two Roman Catholics on opposite tickets, I will erase the name on the ticket I vote; that I will at all times endeavor to place the political positions of this government in the hands of Protestants, to the entire exclusion of the Roman Catholic church, of the members thereof, and the mandate of the Pope.

To all of which I do most solemnly promise and swear, so help me God. Amen.

Any money I give goes to local Catholic churches and the needy people therein, not to the theological liberationists around, and including, “Pope” Francis.

I cannot say, as politics of the secular realm is my main reason for being on FR. Matters of faith tend to be contentious. I grew up next to a Southern Baptist family of eight and was always treated kindly and with respect, perhaps that has something to do with it.

It has become openly and aggressively pro Catholic.

This is NOTHING compared to 12-15 years ago!

Them Catholics had a virtual Inquisition going on here!

Now we Prots can actually rebut their bashings, and extraneous teachings and fake Mary without...

Well... maybe not so much the last thing any more.

I am a devout traditional Catholic. You won’t catch me defending our heretic Pope.

Merely judging him.

You might check your credentials.

Seems like there might be a little PROT mixed in your belief system.

And this thread is a bad thing and should be gone.

Imperial Rome's power has shrunken a bit in these last days.

By the way, Catholics do proclaim that Jesus is Lord.

And that 'Mary' is the only way to Him.

Americans used to exercise tolerance on religious matters by giving one another a wide berth.

While Christians are pretty much commanded to point out false teachings and root them out.

Romans 15:4
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Romans 16:17
I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them.

1 Corinthians 4:17
For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

1 Corinthians 11:2
 2.  I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings,  just as I passed them on to you.

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings  we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

2 Thessalonians 3:6
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching  you received from us.

1 Timothy 2:7
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles.

1 Timothy 4:1-2
 1.  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
 2.  Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 4:6
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed.

1 Timothy 4:11
  Command and teach these things.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
 3.  If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,
 4.  he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
 5.  and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

2 Timothy 1:13
What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

 2 Timothy 2:15-17
 15.  Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
 16.  Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
 17.  Their teaching will spread like gangrene.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
 16.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
 17.  so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Titus 2:1
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

Titus 2:15
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

 2 Peter 2:1-3
 1.  But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
 2.  Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
 3.  In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

2 John 1:10
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

It is indeed not the first time this type of parroted propaganda has been refuted, but it seems there is a compulsion to post them again someplace else.

They have to have a LOT of them; for they do not get very many replies in each.

If they want to really get a game going; they have to join the rest of us here in the schoolyard.
