The on-air numbers weren't down quite as sharply as in recent years, and MTV is touting big increases in social and online engagement. The Video Music Awards fell in the ratings again but not as steeply as they had in the past couple of years or in comparison to some other recent awards shows.
Monday's kudocast on MTV drew 1.93 million viewers and a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49. That's an all-time low for the flagship channel, down from the previous low set last year of 2.25 million viewers and a 1.1 in the demo. The VMAs have hit all-time ratings lows in each of the past three years.

I object to the use of the word “music” when discussing the VMA.
In any way, shape, or form.
Liberals ruin everything
Tell your little girls to save their money for college instead of enriching an old performer like Taylor Swift. She made over $180,000,000 last year and uses her fame to oppose President Trump and conservatives. She doesn’t need their money.
That number is so low.
I saw the awards list the other day.
One category, yes one for rock music and about 15 for rap, hip hop, blues and R&B.
I remember watching MTV in my fraternity house in 1981 when it first came on the air. All rock and pop music. I watch it now every so often for nostalgia. 95% rap and hip hop.
VMAs quickly caught on as a hip, mostly unscripted alternative to the Grammy’s. They were fun to watch 35 years ago. Today they’re just the typical platform for leftist rants, and the little music there is, is pretty boring.
Some music videos still being made
tho are any on MTV, MTV 2, or VH1?
Sometimes I surf through channels and they’re running lifestyle shows or movies. There are some country music
videos on a channel or two. Could be places like youtube are where videos are seen these days.
The book about MTV mentions the excitement when the channel premiered
and videos did help sales. The Dead Kennedys song “MTV Get Off the Air” attacked the channel for “sugar coated mindless garbage/So don’t create, be sedate/Be a vegetable at home and thwack on that dial/If we have our way, even you will believe/THIS is the future..of ROCK AND ROLL!”
music, by definition, is something you listen to ... not watch ...
Swift is visibly starting to age and put on weight.
She also opened with her pro-LGBT song which basically mocks people who morally object to that behavior.
As for videos, they are still being produced but nobody watches MTV - YouTube is that medium's platform.
As I always say, there IS great new rock being created. Our job is to get off our assez and go into the clubs and other platforms to see it and buy it.
1.93 million viewers; 14 with full-time jobs.
Does MTV even show music videos anymore? I thought that channel has mostly reality shows with teenage girls getting pregnant?
It's pure manufactured hype appealing to the fickle and weak-minded.
Sounds like it perfectly reflects today’s music then
“She made over $180,000,000 last year”
Mind boggling. Nothing against Taylor.
Liberals RUIN Everything
My new Slogan.
What’s the difference, if any, between rap and hip-hop?
What are the similarities?
On another issue have you ever listened to traditional African music?
That stuff is so great, rhythmically and harmonically. Why would anybody with African-American roots listen to that rap crap?
Besides you tube, where do they even show music videos any more?
