Schumer to Trump: 'Strong opposition' to Russia rejoining G-7
Washington Examiner ^ | 08-27-19 | Susan Ferrechio

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other top Democrats wrote to President Trump Tuesday objecting to his desire to invite Russia to rejoin the Group of Seven industrialized countries. The New York Democrat, along with Democratic Sens. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Jack Reed of Rhode Island, and Mark Warner of Virginia, told Trump that Russia “does not currently possess the democratic institutions nor the economic capacity to rejoin the Group, and the Putin regime’s actions since its expulsion in 2014 demonstrate that the Russian government is not prepared to productively contribute to the efforts of the G7.” Russia was kicked out of the G-8 after invading and annexing Crimea in violation of several international agreements.

Russia itself stated more than once it is not interested. G-20 is a preferred format for them.

If Schumer hates it - it’s the right call. Russian can be neutral in the possible upcoming war with Iran - or on our side... Might prevent that war from happening.

Trust Trump.

Better in than out.

Russia on the outside can selectively pick and choose how and where it will deal with each trade partner, while in the inside, they are SUPPOSED to be constrained by the internal rules.

Like that ever meant much to the Russians, of course, but there would be basis for retaliations within the framework, and not just patchwork embargoes placed upon them, with few means of enforcement.

I think Trump made it clear, that he’s mopping up what was left to him in regards to:

1. Russia (Obama did nothing with the “red line” and crimea.
2. North Korea (Last three or Admins allowed this)
3. China (We were on a path whereby someday we would be a Chinese Colony.)
4. Iran (Crappy deal)

So, some of the G-7 discussions involved Russia.

I don’t suppose any of the urnialists will tell people that Russia got in the G-7 in the first place on Clinton’s watch.

Not much. But I do highly object to Smucky being a member of the Senate. How about Russia out of the G7/EU as is the case now and Smucky out of the Senate now?

Russia belongs to the G20. Merkel doesn't want him at the G& cuz they still have a lot of dealings with Russia.

And earlier, I think I read that Macron had suggested they rejoin.

Lol... Putin's glad there is one less of these western liberal elite gab fests to attend.

Although, he's probably wondering when Trump is going to grow a spine and call a US/Russia summit.

Russia’s entire economy is the size of New York states. I don’t think they are even close to being among the top seven economies in the world. The only reason that anyone takes rush seriously in any way is because they have thousands of nuclear weapons. If they didn’t have those, they would just be another Third World shit hole.

I am surprised that Schumer was able to remove his lips from Soros’ backside long enough to say anything.

I don’t really think Russia is interested in US/Russia summit either. It would make more political sense for it to cultivate Chinese ties it this point.

Not a disqualifying factor. NY alone would make into G7 based on economy.
