Love to hear all of your theories about why that XO was relieved - but usually the reason involves lack of judgment: like diddling somebody in the command (now that we've gone coed and have welcomed homosexuals this is much more common) or the officer in question violated an order, or he did something stupid that risked the ship.
I served as an Investigating Officer for the Inspector General for a while and you wouldn't believe the stupid/venal things leaders can do.

McCain’s grandfather and father were both admirals. The rules didn’t apply to John McCain.
