Iowa man who killed top golfer from Spain gets life sentence August 23, 2019

AMES, Iowa (AP) — The man who fatally stabbed a former Iowa State University golfer from Spain while she was playing a round near the school was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Collin Richards pleaded guilty on June 14 to first-degree murder in the Sept. 17 slaying of 22-year-old Celia Barquin Arozamena. Police said Richards stabbed her on the course near the central Iowa campus in Ames and left her body in a pond.

Richards had been staying at a homeless encampment in nearby woods. Ames police reports show that Richards struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, mental health problems and homelessness after he got out of prison three months before he killed Barquin. He had served roughly seven months behind bars for violating the terms of his probation on convictions for burglary and other crimes.

Yeah life without parole is just one big vacation. Besides the free room and board, you never have to buy a car, sunscreen, health insurance, etc. You have a readymade social group and an ordered life run by pleasant prison guards who cater to your every wish. Not a care in the world for the rest of your life in a gilded cage.

Methinks he can ‘struggle’ over one last HEAVY dose of the same s* they use to put down pets.

IMO, We really need to get something on the books re: GOVT liability. Numerous charges over a long stint of his history == govt foisting this menace on an unprotected\unknowing public.

Personally, I’m tired of these ‘special rights’ & ‘sovereign immunity’ that have propelled (”unintended”) our creation above the master

Unreal. Who would think you go out for a round of golf and end up being murdered by some lunatic.

Glad he’s locked up for Life. Why don’t they do that to the illegal aliens who murder? Seems like they all get out or get off and end up killing other innocent people.

You had me up till the furbabies thing. Yes the breeding and training can be awful. But the ones I have owned (and some still are in my family) are sweet wonderful protective animals. Then again I would attempt to train Timberwolves and bears.

Its this type of thinking that got the state mental hospitals shut down and the former patients let lose on society ,And you dont even see it.

you may be an awesome animal wisperer but 99.9% of the population doesn't have your talent to handle the mentally unstable. just as 99% of the population can't handle a pit bull.

imho.. animal lovers as a whole are already some of the least intellgent people I have ever met. That doesn't make you stupid. just as a general observation. Most of the smart ones usually have a gentler breed. not a guard dog. mostly shepards and herders, Australian cattle dogs, border collies etc. Why do I see smart dog owners have smarter breeds?

When I see a protective dog breed , the owner is usually someone who has low self esteem and would fight you over words or let their dog tear you up if they didn't like you. You need protection, buy a gun, afraid of snakes ?, get a rat terrier, if spend a lot of time in the wild with bears an big cats, then get a proteco breed.

Im not open to being convinced by a one in a million long shot story. Ill take the 100's of dog bites reported by protection breeds over your "my dog is a wuss " story.

The perp’s already had the crap beaten out of him once while in custody. It’s not all beer and skittles.

I’m just wondering if he should’ve been loose in the first place.

“This sob should be dispatched with a .22 round to the temple, with plenty time before hand to think about it and broadcast on World Wide TV.”

Check out the movie American Hangman, starring Donald Sutherland.

I’m sympathetic to anyone with a disability, illness, etc. who might be a shut-in but when I read “XYZ loved spending time with her family” I mentally substitute “sat on the couch and watched TV for hours on end.”

Local news takes its cues from national news - because local news thinks cynical lefties in coastal cities are the real pros and the locals aspire to get there one day.

Recently, this has resulted in local news mimicking the networks’ constant fearmongering about race-race-race and the Klan in particular. Even when the Klan makes an appearance it’s a ragtag bunch of fewer than 20 losers. Yet the media would have us believe the KKK are as large as the North Korean army and just as well-drilled.

Now the locals are doing ‘Racism!’ stories regularly AND citing the SPLC regularly. In a cruel irony, even the national media are starting to admit that the SPLC are a bunch of chancers with offshore bank accounts and the media are questioning the government’s reliance on an enemies list compiled by a group of radicals in Atlanta.

The local news stories are essentially the SPLC’s entry for group XYZ in prose form ie it’s an SPLC press release without the SPLC having to write one.

I’ve emailed individual reporters to ask them why they rely on the SPLC and point out that asking the SPLC about any conservative group is like asking Browns fans what they think of the Steelers. The answer is inevitable and unchanging but terminally biased. Of course, I have yet to receive a reply.

Individuals such as Richards are factory rejects from hell. What was up to? Drunk or stoned from the ‘homeless encampment’ he existed in and trying to rob or rape this lovely young woman? There are times when vigilante justice is called for.

I take every individual....person or beast…on their behavior. Back in the 60s we rarely saw sane individuals in mental hospitals. We didn’t lump everyone together.

Same with animals.

No. I used to be a sort of animal whisperer. No longer. Due to my age.

I have had pit bulls who were big wusses. Sometimes it’s best to pick the runts of the litter. The cultural thing seems to name unsocializable breeds of dogs from one generation to another. When I was a kid it was German Shepherds. Police dogs we called them and they’ll bite your head off man. Then the Dobermans were vilified. “They only kill their masters”. For the past couple of decades it’s been Pits. Partly because human ‘animals’ have been breeding them and training them for evil purposes. The training can be overcome. Breeding takes a bit longer. I tend to pick the mildest pup in a litter. Canis familiaris are genetically basically the same. What bad traits you can’t breed out of them you train into them.

No I won’t trust the Pit Bull someone who fights dogs has bred and trained. Some individual animals need to be destroyed…some people are beyond hope too.

I think it’s good that he ‘pleaded guilty’, saved the state some money and gave closure to her family without a drawn out trial.
