That is true, but it also seems that the police are trying extra hard to make this into some kind of hate crime case. Somehow I think being in a 15 year old girl's bedroom at 2AM when her parents show up is more likely to be the cause of anger than the color of the young man's skin. In that situation if there was even a slight chance the male was uninvited by the female, many people would consider it a felony rape or attempted rape in progress and act accordingly.
The family may have been trying to do the young man a favor, instead of bringing charges against him for his alleged attack on the parents.
They also may have been trying to deal with the situation as a family matter, instead of a police matter. The young man's allegations don't seem entirely consistent with the story told by the sisters of the young woman.
It is interesting that we are now seeing someone found at 2AM hiding in a teenage girl's closet as a "victim".
See the Daily Mail article here for more details.
Agreed. And we might agree that "hate crime" laws are unnecessary because all crimes are hateful.
But, although the media is focusing on the "hate crime" charge, everyone is overlooking the other, more serious charges: "kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and criminal threats."
That DM article gave the same information other articles are giving: the family members are claiming the 17yo attacked them.
That's the family's story. And I might've sided with the parents if they'd called the police to have him arrested at the house and if their story were supported with evidence. If he really attacked and "tried to kill" someone in their house (as they now claim), someone in the house should've called the police to have him arrested.
But they never did, which makes their story sound questionable (at best). The 17yo was the one who went to the hospital and to the police.
