Interesting strategies.

Cut off food supplies.

The lower class gets upset at the elite and turns against them.

Is this what is happening in China right now through Trump’s economic warfare?

China keeps its manufacturers junk, we keep our food.

I may have missed it but the article seems to have omitted that Alaric was a Christian also - an Arian Christian but still one.

It’s worth mentioning that both Sozomen and Orosius wrote in the days before the much more devastating sack of Rome by the Vandals in AD 455. At that point it became clear that the prostration the city had suffered under Alaric was not a singular event—and that much worse might be expected in the future.

It is a process of many events. The decline of the USA is many events, not just one. The rebuilding is also many events.

Let me repeat that, many SMALL events.

Many here criticize Trump because he has not won the war. Folks we have a lot of small winnings, never forget them or how important they are.

The future of the USA if the mob ("progressives"--or whatever their newspeak nom du jour might be) have their way.

The oblivious Americans will wake fast from their comas when violent gangs of illegal immigrants invade their homes, but it will be far too late!

Actually the assessment is wrong.
The high point of the Roman Empire was before there ever was Christianity.
It was a true Republic where Roman Citizens were valued and the Senate and Emperor paid attention to those who they administered.

Eventually the cost of fighting wars all thru the Empire became the first dent in the armor of Rome.
Paying off the debt while trying to placate the Plebes (also known as the mob) with things and trinkets from far off lands only increased the need for more wars.

All this happened before Christianity.

“All persons of good sense were aware that the calamities which this siege entailed upon the Romans were indications of Divine wrath sent to chastise them for their luxury, their debauchery, and their manifold acts of injustice towards each other, as well as towards strangers. “

Sounds ominously familiar...
