A classic dividing line between people has to do with pets: are you a dog or cat person? Many people prefer one over the other, while some like both, and some like neither. Then there are those who despise one or other. Mike Leach doesnt understand the cat haters.
The Washington State Cougars head coach, who is known to opine on random subjects, tweeted Tuesday about his lack of understanding regarding cat hate.

You get out of a dog what you put into a dog. A cat will only give you so much, regardless of the circumstance.
There are other, bigger issues with cats. It involves the suitability to be inside your home. As a stipulation to having a cat in my house, the front claws were removed. Now that’s seen as a heinous act. I always figured it was a fair trade, a nice life, in exchange for front claws. If a cat has front claws and decides to destroy stuff, you’re stuck. Time to buy new stuff.
The other thing is regarding cats relieving themselves. I got used to the whole pooping in a box in the house. Not great, but ok, I can deal with it. But if a cat gets sick, the home environment changes, the cat gets old, or the cat just decides to, they will spray in your home. It’s just short of having a skunk come in and spray. Our last little kitty who got upset ruined carpeting to the tune of $5k.
If you like cats, I’m cool with that. Some cats are even somewhat personable. I don’t hate them, but I’ll never have another in my home.
Count me as a dog person.
Well, he IS coach of the Cougars...
Have long understood cat hate as Hitler syndrome. Dogs obey orders while cats ignore you. Insights welcome.
Love Coach Leach, he’s big-time MAGA.
Most cat haters expect cats to behave like dogs. They are different animals. Duh.
When a dog is confronted after making a mess on the carpet, it acts ashamed and slinks away. A cat just looks at you, as if saying with a Cockney accent, “What are you going on about? Oh, that — so what?”
Me too. He is pedal-to-metal on offense.
I got 3 German Shepherds and 1 giant crabby Tabby.
So I am 75% dog person/ 25% cat person.
Several years ago, I saw a comic strip in which a cat watched in horror as a dog owner issued commands to his pet--sit, beg, roll over, etc.--and the dog humbly obeyed. The cat thought, "poor dog. He'll never make it as a cat."
Well, he’s coaching the Cougars not the Huskies.
Same. My athsma went away when the cats went away.
I’m in the “both” category, but not necessarily at the same time. For the last few years we’ve been a confirmed “Dog” family. And not your ankle biting, carry around in your jacket variety. Three rescues, living indoors, weighing 55, 70, and about 80 pounds each. One thing you can’t have with cats is the honor of being Alpha of a “pack”. The old cliché, dogs have owners and cats have staff, is true.
Treat a cat like a cat. Independant...capable of surviving alone. Capable of fetching...cuddling...listening. Will spray and scratch carpets, wood to sharpen claws. Not a human...when people to expect them to observe human customs and then are disappointed....well, surprise, you need to do the homework.
To a dog, you’re family. To a cat, you’re staff. (Ken Davis)
