Maher typically is on the right side when it comes to the middle east.
I watched him a long time ago, when “Politically Incorrect” first came on.
Haven’t watched him much for a long time. His attitude always irritated me.

There are a few old-fashioned libs — Alan Dershowitz and Camille Paglia come to mind — who I find occasionally make a good point and who aren’t personally obnoxious.
Maher’s occasional flashes of insight tend to be drowned out by his nasty personality. Remember that he attacks Christianity with almost as much zeal as he attacks Islam.
I can only imagine how he treats his staff.
