In no way am I saying Mercedes are bad cars. I’m saying that repairs may be somewhat costly. They have great warranty service. It’s one reason why people buy them.
However, I’d never buy one used without a bumper to bumper warranty, and I’d sell it before the warranty ran out. It’s why their resale value is so low, relatively speaking.
I have a friend that just traded in his Mercedes for another new one. It needed some simple repairs (at least they would have been in a Toyota or Ford) that were going to be so costly, he just moved on. But he can afford it.
The funny part is that my billionair brother’s daily driver is a Cadillac, about five years old. Of course he also has a fairly large 4x4 for tooling around the 50k acres, and he has a countach and first year corevette in his garage. But I think the latter two are really just investments. I don’t fit in the Lambo, BTW.
Repairs on all cars at dealers are obscene now. A $100 diagnostic fee that no longer counts toward the repair. My 2014 Expedition had a failed sunroof track $3,100! Then a few months ago, the rear CC lines corrodes away and leaked $1,300. Fortunately, I bought an extended warranty for $1,100 so I was only out $200 for deductibles.
