This month marks 50 years since eight black-clad hippies snuck into a series of upscale Los Angeles homes and carried out the nine killings now known as the Manson Family Murders. Between July 25 and Aug. 9, 1969, the followers of cult leader and failed musician Charles Manson murdered pregnant starlet Sharon Tate and her four guests, stabbed a supermarket executive and his dressmaker wife, and gored a Ph.D candidate with a sword.
Half a century out, the attacks continue to resurface in pop culture. Sorry ‘bout the drive-by post but I just finished watching “Monte Walsh” and what passes for entertainment now days is truly disgusting.
It’s actually a pretty incredible story this woman has to tell. She went from being 14-year old in the Manson family to testifying against them to being fostered by her arresting officer later on.
Surprise! Surprise! She’s really messed up.

I am not certain that I would call Manson’s followers “Hippies.” Brain dirtied nut cases maybe, yet not hippies. It may be that hippies did not believe in mind control. Charles Manson was all about mind control.

A true leftist, Charles Manson infiltrated and co-opted the home of Dennis Wilson (the middle brother, and drummer, of The Beach Boys); Dennis became alarmed, and moved out of his own house.
As I recall, they co-wrote a song, which Manson wanted to call, “Cease to Exist,” but Wilson changed to “Never Learn Not to Love.” Manson then demanded his name be removed from the credits.
I once worked with a woman whose family was targeted by the Manson Family when she was seventeen. She did not seem to know why they were targeted, but an FBI car was posted outside their house for a time for protection.
