True.
Not even a "Double Dog Dare"!
That sucks.
Huh I was sure this would be California.
Well, after WE pay to patch him up and get him on his feet, a sleazy lawyer will show up and sue everyone from the park to the manufacturer of the cover and all in between.
Or Florida.
My theory is kids are doing more stupid things because they were cocooned from hurting themselves while younger. As a kid I learned pretty quickly you can get hurt while playing around—climbing trees, bike riding, tall slippery slides, seesaws, merry-go-rounds and even some diabolical play equipment invented by a friend’s welder father. We had lots of bruises, cuts and dings, even scars, but we learned to respect physics and avoid stupidity. Now I don’t advocate losing bike helmets or such but I think kids are far too protected by helicopter parents from learning that being stupid while little hurts and being stupid while older hurts even more.
5’11” Large ? Heck my little sisters are 5’11”
Stupid kids do stupid things.
Here in Minnesota a few years back a toddler sat on the pool drain and it sucked out her intestines. She died nine months later.

“Kids are becoming more stupid”
I grew up in the 50s and 60s. Kids were just as stupid and untrained in avoiding hazards. Add the new technology and kids have more to learn before they are no longer a danger to themselves.
Bump. Helicopter parents are NOT doing their kids any favors. Like you, I have several scars from my childhood. Learned my lessons the hard way. But that knowledge has paid many bonuses over the years.
Kids are becoming more stupid.
No just being kids.. You can’t protect them from everything. We did some really dumb stuff in the 50’s and 60’s. If you survive it’s called the learning curve.
They don’t have Calvin and Hobbes to teach them about the dangers of the drain monster.
You are correct.
There is an effort to counter that:
A MASTERPIECE!!!
Common sense is sorely lacking in our yutes these days.
This would have been just a local story “back in the day”. It may have gotten a small blurb buried somewhere in the back of the newspapers in other states.
With the advent of the internet, Facebook and even FR, everything is available on a national and international level.
Not complaining. I think that’s mostly a good thing. You just have to remember that there’s a lot more news out there now.
