On August 15, 1969, at 5:07 p.m., Richie Havens took the stage at Max Yasgurs Bethel, New York dairy farm, kicking off three days of peace and music. As we get ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock this month, we find that while the festival lives on in memory and mythology, its hard to imagine what it was really like if you werent one of the nearly half a million attendees.
To revisit Woodstock as it all went down, XPN will broadcast Woodstock As It Happened 50 Years On, a radio exclusive that includes all of the festivals archived audio, from the music to the stage announcements to the rain delays. Over three days, well play newly reconstructed audio archives of each of Woodstocks 32 performances, from Richie Havens opening set to Jimi Hendrixs closing one and everything in between

Michael Shrieve of Santana....man could that kid play the drums.
Sly and the Family Stone were on fire.
They were the best set, IMHO.

Honor The Fallen
On August 12, 1969 Phuoc Long Province, Republic of Vietnam, two days before the Woodstock Concert....
Specialist Fourth Class Leonard L. Alvarado 1st Air Cav was with a reaction force seeking to rescue an ambushed platoon.
When he detected movement, SPC4 Alvarado advanced forward while opening fire. A grenade exploded and wounded him. He killed the enemy grenade thrower. While braving grenade and automatic weapons fire, SPC4 Alvarado dragged several wounded comrades back to a hasty perimeter. Knowing they would be overrun by a superior enemy force, he advanced forward alone through machine gun fire on the enemy.
Though he was wounded by enemy fire, grenades and satchel charges, SPC4 Alavardo went from enemy emplacement and silencing them with his fire. His actions forced the enemy to break contact and retreat.
When his comrades reached SPC4 Alvarado's last position, they discovered he had died of his wounds.
For his extraordinary heroism and selflessness, SPC4 Leonard L. Alvarado of Bakersfield Ca, was posthumously awarded The Congressional Medal of Honor.
Did John Sebastian perform with the Lovin’ Spoonfull or solo?
Thanks for that post. I am humbled by the bravery of our military..
I believe Sebastian performed solo because he was not officially scheduled. He just showed up and asked to play.
I’m listening now. There was some real musical crap in that event. I’m listening right now to Country Joe McDonald doing the bad singing and bland strumming. I suppose if your audience is stoned, you don’t have to be all that good. :)
But Santana is up at 2. They were simply amazing!
