One of the reasons Canada can afford socialized medicine while paying roughly the same income taxes we pay is that Canada's annual defense budget is $25 billion.
Because, of course, they are counting on US to save them if they are ever attacked by a foreign power.— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) August 20, 2019
Of course, we could reduce our defense budget to $25 billion and offer the same socialized medicine Canada does, but we'd all be in Chinese labor camps by the end of the year, so there's that.— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) August 20, 2019

Twitter Reveals A Large State-Backed Chinese Misinformation Campaign Targeting Hong Kong https://t.co/Iu9fusLSJi— Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) August 20, 2019
Twitter disclosed more than 900 accounts originating from within China that deliberately attempted to promote disinformation in Hong Kong as activists engage in pro-democracy demonstrations in the region.
The companys disclosure consists of 936 accounts originating from inside the communist country. Twitter said in a blog post Monday that it has reliable evidence to support that this is a coordinated state-backed operation the accounts were attempting to sow discord.
Many of the accounts accessed Twitter using virtual private networks, or VPNs, which allows users to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the private network. Twitter is blocked in China, so citizens must rely on alternative ways to gain access to the platform. (snip form DC article)
The geophysical community still hasn't admitted Dutch's main point, which is that most significant earthquake activity is stimulated by deep earthquakes, several hundreds of miles beneath the earth's surface. The energy then propagates around the world, mainly along plate boundaries and along fracture lines across the oceans. Professional geophysicists think that earthquakes occur essentially randomly along faults, while Dutch -- using modern graphical software showing where, when and how energetically earthquakes occur -- has noticed very interesting patterns. One of the things he has noticed is that if earthquakes of similar magnitude happen a distance apart, then an earthquake of similar magnitude, midway between the two points is likely to happen.
